I think we're supposed to imagine they're speaking the English equivalent. It is a Japanese manga meant for Japanese audiences, afterall. The raws have Japanese text even when speaking English, which is different from other mangas like Alya Hides Her Feelings in Russian, where they have Cyrillic text.

Even then, I'm not going to be taking the creative liberty of localizing the English sections. Whatever is in front of me is what gets translated, since I don't think its intended for even the raws to read like it's English.

Common trope in a lot of manga and anime ngl. Usually it's the biggest flaw of an MC that is resolved as the character grows. It just sucks how often we see this trope.
