"To govern is to educate" - Pedro Aguirre Cerda, President of Chile 1938 – 1941
This is the wall that Mephisto was talking about, Iruma cannot teach more than what he has learned at Babyls. Mephisto is probably expecting Iruma to give up and ask him for help at that point, and instead Iruma will summon Eggy-Sensei as you said. Some nice callbacks in this chapter. He's using the picture books Balam made for him and he's completely adopted Bachiko's finger gesture (page 13). I wonder if he'll summon Kalego for a crash course in how to teach.
That's actually debunked histiography. Great empires last longer than 250 years. The Roman Empire lasted from 27 BC to 476 AD, over twice as long as the 250 year mark. The Ottoman Empire lasted from 1299 to 1922. The Byzantines lasted from sometime in the 4th or 5th century AD, depending on what you classify as the start of the Byzantine Empire, to 1453 AD, easily over 1,000 years. The New Kingdom of Egypt (AKA Egypt as an empire) lasted from the 16th to the 11th century BC.
The only way you can get close 250 years is if you count each Chinese dynasty as a new empire and then take the mean duration of all empires.
The problem is that Iruma is being incredibly naive right now and has a lot of misguided assumptions about why his school life at Babyls has been good, but that's also what is going to make this a good learning experience for him 🤔I think Mephisto is surprisingly short sighted for a king maker. After all, does a school the babyls not unite the netherworld in some way? Even if there is a 'wall' it can be overcome by these three.
Eh, easily from our perspective maybe, but I imagine this one is going to require some wake up calls, soul searching and agonizing over alternatives to come to a right answer, most of which will be condensed for our sakes 🤔Looks like Iruma is thinking of becoming a teacher in the future. Whatever wall Mephisto is talking about, Iruma will get over it easily.
She's a distraction and would just want to keep playing until they're all worn out, so honestly kind of fair in this caseI'm not sure why Clara is getting kicked out of the tent. She's been shown to sleep in the same bed as Iruma and Azz multiple times and we all know she's far to pure for anything untoward to happen. She's a good girl let her back in.
I think it's a mixed bag. I don't disagree that he's underestimating Iruma and making assumptions based on his on biases, but Iruma's plans are fairly naive since he's really only had one year of education at Babyls, there's just too much he currently doesn't know, especially when it comes to the strengths and weaknesses of the Many-Eared race and magic. Then there's the issue of "What happens when he leaves?" It's not like the Many-Eared race have anyone on site that can even replace their one year of learning (plus a bit more in Asmodeus and Clara's case,) which kind of brings the group back to square one since that's also kind of why Iruma can't be king. Iruma will definitely find a way around all of these issues, but I doubt it'll come easily, though he at least has one more lifeline if he summons Kalego through a summon paper produced by Clara 🤔Mephisto is underestimating Iruma for sure, he thinks he is going to run into a wall because it is nothing like something he would expect from the task he gave Iruma or for the task Iruma really had to accomplish, but I think Iruma and Clara (surprisingly) have the right idea to build up a country and give the children of the many-ears an attatchment to the place, giving education and actually getting to know them and their ambitions. Iruma will probably choose the example study (which I think we all know will be Nova) as the King of the many-ears, now with a connected community that has more diverse skills than those limited to their hearing, and show Mephisto how he is wrong about kingmaking.
And I wholly agree. Mephisto strikes me as someone who, unless he's in control of a situation, feels like its going off the rails. Im sure he's right there will be unforeseen problems with this plan, but he's stuck thinking he ought to be the driver of events. Iruma's greatest strength is he is able to bring out the best in others and asking for help, that is incredibly versatile. Mephisto is simply too stuck in rigid thinking to catch on that Iruma is a wrecking ball to any plan that assumes people will act as they always haveI think Mephisto is surprisingly short sighted for a king maker. After all, does a school the babyls not unite the netherworld in some way? Even if there is a 'wall' it can be overcome by these three.
