I know it seems easy to judge the elders of the Many-Ears Race for being close-minded BUT remember that their race has always been subservient to other demon races for who knows how long.

Im pretty sure there has been leaders and heroes of their race that tried to raise their status but out of maybe hundreds or thousands of history of the Demon Races they never rose up, meaning that is how weak their race is.

Remember when they visited Clara's house, IIRC it even shows that Clara's family/clan has their own territory which means that Clara's family/clan which is portrayed to be soft and playful is strong enough to carve out their own land among the demon races yet the Many-Ears can't even establish their own territory? It just shows how weak their race is. Which is sad tbh.

However, with Iruma here Im pretty sure Author is gonna find a way for MC to raise their status lol.

I don't think the boomers are wrong for thinking this way. They've survived by being subservient as their race isn't that powerful. By being more ambitious they are making themselves a target to be conquered makes sense why they are apprehensive
It's also inevitably going to result in stirring the pot. Demon society runs mostly on a Might Makes Right school of thought, which the many-ears only managed to subvert by being subservient, like you mentioned. Suddenly wanting to do their own things is going to cause... issues among the demons who have gotten cozy with their many-eared servants (read: slaves).

I'm thinking that this is a literal problem for them, like the Many-Ears formed a contract with a high ranked demon in the past and in order to be given support and left unharmed they were contractually obligated to be no greater than servants to the other demons.

Once the Nova Corps (lol) formally break the contract the high ranked demon or their subordinates will show up to annihilate them.

Kalego was a sergeant for his test, huh? I am not surprised at all. Didn't know I needed that bit with the rest of the mistfit, but glad we got it, so damn cute and gave us a lot about the scala. Now I wonder how was it for Opera.

We are already seeing it with magic.

chapter 353 had this to say about the many ears "They are said to be poor in both magic and physical combat" which is not a fact, but rather a popular opinion.

These kids never seem to be taught how to use magic and just focus on their hearing. They became stagnant. Now that they are working on both magic, combat, and most of all, ambition, they may just have some secret power.

The Misfit class wanting to be like Iruma while he's gone is just precious to me. Before coming to the netherworld Iruma had nobody in his life. Now he has friends that like him, that admire him, that want to be him. Shows how much better his life has gotten since the start of rhe series.

Convincing the older generation to change their ways. It's easier to convince the younger generation to change, but the older generation will be difficult. So that's the wall Mephisto said Iruma would have to overcome in a previous chapter.

Old Generation: The way we live is hard, Sometimes we wish we could change it.

New Generation: Let's change this way of life.

Old Generation: NO! You are going to sit here and do nothing while complaining like the rest of us. God why can't our lives get better?I
I understand where the older generation is coming from. They are subservient to stronger clans / races and that is how they survived. Now Iruma is showing the children they can reach for their dreams BUT they are going to need someone strong to protect them as they spread their wings. Otherwise these other races used to them being passive will likely crush them when they show independence.

This is definitely a harder test for Iruma then the others mentioned. I have no idea how he is going to accomplish this.

Edit: This manga is like crack, I don't get my weekly fix I start getting antsy.

Been reading the past chapters for this arc...

So to recap:
  • The many-ears, according to Mephisto, are an outstanding race that greatly contribute to the prosperity of the netherworld.
  • Because of them relying on stronger demons, they're always spread out thin and separated which has led to difficulties in dealing with illnesses and injuries, as well as reproducing.
  • The "making a country" plan is for the sake of protecting the many-ears so they can live in peace, and Mephisto already promised to protect them from danger using his position as one of the 13 crowns.
  • While the protection thing is solved, Mephisto can't always be around to govern them, that's where the Kingmaker plan comes in.
  • The Elder hopes that by having a leader it may unite all the many-ears in the land, and those who have made a living might even choose to stay.
I think the problem here is in order for these kids to fulfill their ambitions they need to leave the "country", which is what makes the whole "making a country" thing difficult.

Now it'd be easy to say that they can send the kids out and they can return when they've gathered enough knowldge to share back in their country but:
  1. There's a lot of "IFs" with this like "If they'll return" or "If they manage to fulfill their dreams" or "If they're even alive by then"
  2. I'm pretty sure Iruma needs to have a more concrete solution sooner than years later in making a country, or at least convince Mephisto how this is a great solution.
The only other solution I can think of right now, is to bring opportunity to the many-ears instead.

So what are the chances that the threat is handled by our discount many ears demon lord kid? As I have a feeling that he is going to stand up for the occasion and become king proper and as such Iruma pass the exam by making the many ears independent!

The "low mana" is still fact because Nova confirmed this in 357, but thanks to Clara (in 356) they can overcome this with technique

Remember, eventually you (yes you) will eventually become the old generation, and then you'll understand their point of view.

Anyway, Ear-uma, it just makes sense he leads!

How will the gang solve the weaknesses of the many-ears race? Hmmm
I think the plot will be that really the many-ears don't really have a weakness, they just don't have an strength that's recognized, and in the netherworld's society currently, they have been shoved into very specific roles that fit their hearing ability, but their possibility to learn magic beyond basics and gain strength has been discarded and they have been conditioned into being weak by the netherworld's society that prioritizes strength as the way to be recognized.

The netherworld has been stablished to be very class based, with ranks being very determining, our protagonists are interested in going up ranks but they don't consider them as much important as demon society does. And on top of that the ranking has been strongly tied again and again with a demon's strength. When we were introduced to the many ears, we weren't told about them being naturally weak, but that they don't have any strong ability and only have exceptional hearing.

A thing we saw really was that it's not a lack of ability, Nova is our first example, he studied by himself and did all his efforts but had no one to actually teach and guide him and point to his mistakes, he was not bad at magic, once Iruma, Asmodeus and Clara taught him how to do magic, he got it, he didn't have an inability due to being a many-ears, but just hadn't had the opportunity to learn and it seems that's a big part of this arc. It's not that the many-ears can't do the things other demons do, it's that the netherworld hasn't given them the opportunity to do more than what their race has been conditioned to.
