Unrelated but I almost jumped thinking Act Age is back and was preparing to write an essay on it. Until I read the entire article.

Don't make assumptions just by looking at pictures, kids.
I made the same mistake, it's sad that it and Tenmaku Cinema were so short lived, there was some real potential with them. At least Akane-banashi is going strong, learning about the art form of Rakugo has been a lot of fun 🤔

Others called out that Nova had hearing issues, or maybe his hearing is just normal compared to other demons but severely lacking for a many-ears.

But any way, it seems the old man is stuck up, he can't give an opportunity to the kids trying to master magic, he doesn't believe in it or the possibility of his people being more than what they are innately good at. This arc is framing up to be about generational issues and possibilities beyond determinism. Munmu believes him and his kin have no value, he says despite their hearing, but that's just a way of saying they have no value as people only as tools for others to use their skills. He and the parents of the children have just shut down, Iruma is even proposing to work something out so that the children can practice both things, but as a leader Munmu wants the many-ears to remain as serfs because it's a guaranteed way of survival.

I imagine by the end of the arc we will have Iruma breaking down this closed mindedness among many-ears adults and with one many-ears as a leader (which let's be honest it's 99.99% sure going to be Nova) the many-ears that want to learn magic will be learning magic, and the country will be stablished. A country that can only do one industry is usually doomed to fail if they can't diversify, if the many-ears can't do more than their hearing abilities, a proper country could not be stablished, much less in the netherworld where I bet everywhere uses some kind of magic to do essential tasks which the many-ears adults would, by stubborness, be unable to do.

Was act Age the series people loved until they found out the writer was a pedo and everyone worried the artist would never find work again due to being affiliated with him?

if so, this could definitely be interesting. The mob style Iruma spin-off tells a really good story through its improved art
not sure if it was a pedo, but the author not once, but twice sexually assaulted women(girls?) in the same day in q bycicle got caught, punished and Jump canceled the series. But at least it was great how much support the artist got across the globe.
It’s almost as if years of being treated as an inferior species whose only talent is hearing well would slowly warp a group of people to feel they can only be reliant on their singular talent.

Also topical news (will officially be announced Sunday so keep it on the down low)

great news, but doesn't Nishi-sensei works for Akita shoten (publisher of Iruma and the other spin offs), can it work for shueisha too??

I bet this was what actually Mephisto wanted to put in Iruma's way as a wall (tradition vs change), but his creativity worked too well and too fast, which make the elders afraid for the change going back to the original problem, but the seeds are already there, the younger people already are starting to believe in other paths, this arc is going really well to say the least.

I love the mafia spin off, but people really shouldn't take lightly the main series.

This is the problem with tradition. You get so used to how things were don’t that they MUST be done this way. the fact that grandpa refuses to even enter it idea has nothing to do with Nova or that hes hard of hearing, but because they’re so stuck in the mentality of ”This is the only thing we’re good at” without ever trying something else.

It's happened before. Soichiro Yamamoto had serializations at Kodansha and Shogakukan simultaneously.

Traditions have to adapt to the times, or they die.

That... Is more boring than it could be. Well, at least reasoning is expressed clearly.
Now then, if it was demonly demon the best solution would be tyranny - just force your way. But sweet bun that is Iruma doesn't really do that and he is denied of reasonable compromise of adjusting schedules for different kinds of training. Conflict is set, expecting resolution.

Oooh, are we gonna get insight into Asmodeus's bloodline ability here? It's what his family is known for, and where the likely consider to be the seat of their value, but Asmodeus doesn't use it. He is the poster child for dedicating his training towards what would typically be considered a "secondary" skill.

Why are people acting like they are just being boomers and not that their entire race has only managed to escape extinction by focusing on their hearing?
They are shorter than even Clara, has no physical strength, and no magic ability. For what reason should they risk complete eradication to be below average at something.

Okay but like...aint that kinda dumb?
Like, correct me if im wrong, shouldnt it be better to divulge into other talents than just the one your family is known for?
The fact that Nova exist proves that it will more than likely happen again, or even worse it can be forced upon one of them. Following the Elder's logic, if you arent able to use your talent your race is known for, then your worthless.
Its so obvious that Iruma will change the guy's thinking, thus allow the kids to start to learn magic again. Especially when Elder's point is just...stupid.

Might not have yet been revealed but the elder is making me think that if the many ears get too strong and good with magic they will be scarring the higher rank demons due to the possibility of them becoming independent.

I’m telling you, I am like 30% sure this is all intentional and that I’m not completely insane.
Only MOSTLY insane.

Why are people acting like they are just being boomers and not that their entire race has only managed to escape extinction by focusing on their hearing?

My people survived for thousands of years by keeping our heads down, but when pogroms gave way to even worse, we got a little more aware, worldly and versatile.

Lotta accountants and lawyers, but plenty of musicians (you’d be surprised!), actors, politicians…

If you rely on The Man to take care of you, then The Man can pretty easily “take care of you”.
