More and more, the "Misfits" class looks like a deliberate move by Grandpa Sullivan to connect Iruma to the powerful families of the Netherworld.

Given what their class was supposed to be for, there's little academic reason to continue keeping them separate at this point. They should all be in regular classes by now.

But, they aren't. Someone has an interest in seeing these specific demons stick together.

Oh right he has a gambling problem. I guess that got sorted out? I feel like that got kinda brushed aside, don't remember them every really dealing with it like they have most other students. He just became friends with Iruma and stopped being an issue

I get that, but it would be interesting for something or someone big in the story to be completely unrelated to the current classmate cast. It's disappointing that in the forseeable future that's not going to happen. It's incredibly tropey in a way I'm not a fan of. It's not even necessarily subversive to introduce a character with no relation to someone in the core cast, it's just introducing an entirely new character.

Nafra was good, but kinda got swept into things. Mephisto got swept into the sphere as well. I mean like, introduce a new character that isn't kept in the Iruma-sphere afterwards, but who is connected tangentially.

So the role of "high up in border patrol" works because it's relevant to Ameri's family, but if she was entirely unique and not a misfit's sibling, and whose interaction was focused primarily (or exclusively) on the thief brother. The Phantom Thief being a classmate's sibling makes sense, but his cheated-on ex could have been literally anyone. That's what I'm bored by.

And it happens in soooooo many manga, it's like editors are obsessed with character webs. Why can't a new character be only relevant to the story at hand and not further relevant to other goings-on?

If you re-read chapter 68, you can see their first introduction is side by side, Jazz's brother tried to steal Kalego wallet and Lied's sister tried to marry Kalego. Also, both of their family magic is related to sense, Andro family's is to use eye to see items and how best to get it, while Shax family's is to steal five sense.
