Realistically, Iruma should not be good enough to stop a demon that Ameri could not.
So maybe he will just be able to stall him until someone stronger arrives.

But I have no doubt it will be EPIC either way.

Also, HOW did he catch up to him? Cause he should not be faster than Malius
I'd say he has a pretty good chance.
He's locked tf in, he's pissed and he has been acting with Malius this whole time, so he knows what the guy can do.
Also the fact that Iruma is a ranged fighter with god-tier evading skills and Malius is a hand-to-hand kind of guy.

Iruma didn't catch up to him, he waited Malius. Iruma knew where the door was from the tour they took.

Love his serious look. The art style difference is like Panty & Stocking levels.
This is what cat lady sees every doki doki manga date.

Huh, looks like my read on Shakky was spot on and Malus is indeed afraid of being tied down.
Now the question is if Malus has any intel or ties to the rebels/demons pursuing origin given his pursuits and relatively powerful strength. I was surprised he won the fight against Ameri and just survived against a rank 8, which would probably puts him at rank 7.5. Lower ranking demon (and human) like Iruma supposedly have lower power output than higher ranking ones... but we may see some power-up or development here.
Iruma will probably rely on his evil phase from Alikerd (given he lacks the propensity for violence) to dish out the punishment. "Wrath" is not a word I'd associate with Iruma even with his anger... but I can definitely see a demon taking/tasting that "freshness". And Alikerd is about to channel that anger towards a target.

its still him. He’s not controlled or brainwashed. Just more assertive while still being a kind kid who’s willing to help out. Plus, like last time, he likely asked to go dark (unlike the first time) but here (unlike the idol festival) it was fueled by his own negativity and hatred. That’s new for him and I’m excited to see how it plays out.
I know it's still him, but at the same time it's also not actually him. Yes, the "evil" in him (his true self, negatives and all) is probably buried inside when he was being a doormat before getting isekaid, and it gets brought out with the simulated evil cycle.

I'm just saying, it'd make more of an impact if the usually kind Iruma is pissed, not just switches to Evil Cycle Iruma.

A part of me wonders if this is Evil phase Iruma, or if this is just him being angry for the first time ever. Manga sometimes draws characters based on how they are perceived, rather than by what they actually look like (Komi-san for example). It could be that the visual change is only for the benefit of us readers.

Iruma is what, 15? 16? He's a young man, but is drawn closer to a child most of the time. The way he's drawn here looks more accurate to what he should probably look like.

Regardless, he looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing more!

It's 100% stylistic, he's drawn like a child because he kinda acts like one, being innocent and all that.
One main point people kinda forget is that Iruma doesn't have an evil cycle since he's not a demon.
His "Evil Cycle" is just Ali casting a spell on him to make him less inhibited and more confident.

What we're seeing here is probably just Iruma on a controlled state of rage.
We saw a few chapters back that even Ali seemed worried when Iruma got pissed, so she most definitely didn't cast a spell on him this time. He's just mad and locked in.

-How did Iruma beat him to the gate?

Those Master Archer lessons from Bachiko. Same thing he used to ambush Robin.

The difference between an archer and a Master Archer is the ability to strategize. To think ahead and position oneself so that a single shot makes the most difference.

Could he have dropped Malius with the first shot? Maybe, but Iruma's not that cold. He needs this confrontation. He needs Mal to know who beat him, and why.

Total bonus that we (and the Demon world at large) get to see him go toe to toe with a notorious Rank 8. Been a minute since we've seen a throwdown and I'm here for it.

It's not too different from a demon. Their Evil Cycle is usually just a state where their pent up stress reaches a limit, causing them to lash out. It's simply not too common (outside of certain stressful environments like war torn areas) to see since the Netherworld puts effort in relieving a demon of their stress (Walter's Park, Akudols, etc.).

I think the only noticeable difference between Iruma's wicked phase and a demon's is that Iruma doesn't really get a boost in strength. Instead he becomes more confident, bold, and can act without reservation while still retaining control over himself.

With that said, I really do hope this is Iruma being so enraged and filled with bloodthirst that it "triggered" a psuedo-wicked phase for himself, without the need of having Ali induce it for him.

I kinda hope Iruma switched to this naturally instead of with magic. That would be interesting

This arc has been characters doing cool poses, and than next chapter getting the rug pulled out from under them on repeat.

He was pissed as the usual Iruma and even his friends were kinda shocked by the bloodlust he was emanating. He (seemingly) chose to go evil mode because he needed to express that bloodlust, which is still a step up for him from who he once was. I expect next chapter to focus on him making that decision and his thought process in doing so

Can we all agree it's all Amelie's fault?
Though we finally get Iruma having a top notch final boss entrance after two chapters.
