I am genuinely surprised humans are still being treated that well, etc. Was expecting his treatment to be a lot darker, despite how fluffy the manga is.

Because at the moment the border patrol authorities are still split between 2 factions and Henri is clearly the less violent and less discriminating leader. I am more surprised Henri was allowed to visit/interrogate a human given what he did in the past with another human. Perhaps this is the "calm" before the actual storm. We know tension is building up amongst various factions - the question is which one will be attempting to seize Iruma to further their own agenda?

Baal is aiming to become demon king and human(s) like Iruma seem to be only a pawn to his ambitions. Then there are the radicals who wants to become unrestrained sins and vices incarnated... and extremists who seem to detest the presence of humans with emphasis on hierarchy based on blood and strength.
Who knows, maybe there are those who want to eat and experiment on humans. We know about the demon song early in the story about demons eating humans but we haven't heard much on that topic since then.

To me, the biggest wild card now is Alikured - we actually haven't see him being (re)charged at all and he as a ring was never removed from Iruma. It is known that Alikured gained more power as Iruma ranked up - so is Iruma now adapting to or capable of absorbing magic power in the demon realm?
Mephisto can pull a surprise and say "F*** It all, I'm ranking Iruma up on the spot to start a revolution". There isn't/wasn't any rule that said humans cannot become demons and frankly, Iruma is more than qualified to become a lord of Gluttony.
