I'll keep saying it. Go back and really look at these chapters. The artist(s) on these are exceptional artists. They didn't go for a more realistic style because they didn't want to. There are some fantastic details and continuities in the close up shots.

Aye. Some artists adjust their style to carry the story. I doubt the antics of a story like this would be nearly as funny, if drawn in the style of like say, Jim Lee. Sometimes dumbing-down just works better.
