So here we have the grand reveal, WHY the hell they are "slaves".
And it's just because "if we fight back they'll get mad", the very same mentality you see in all the mangas about school bullying.
I've seen all this before, only those mangas didn't have "MAGIC OP" as MC traits but just the normal non magical mary sue MCs.

How did that intro lead to this! It's madness, doesn't make any sense at all for him to even be going to school much less to take the hardest road of gathering incompetents to bring down "the system". Because that has to be his plan right? Train these shitty students to be his loyalist army and take over the country and then defeat the demons.

No matter how goddamn OP MC is, if he training the worst mages in the country is enough to beat the human kingdom & then the demons too, why didn't he beat them long ago before he grew old and got backstabbed. Is the plot that the human higher-ups are just setting up demons as scarecrows to rule easier? But MC was a higher-up so he should have noticed if that was the case.

With regards to the demons and the government I cannot say, though it is entirely possible that you are correct and the government is basically using the idea of the demons to control the population. Yes, he was in a high position. That doesn't mean he automatically was able to know every secret the government had.
Regardless I wanted to respond to what you said about the students. You are making the assumption that they are the lowest rank because they failed in testing and are, in fact, bad at what ever they are expected to be able to do. That is not necessarily the case. More likely they were never given the chance to be tested nor assessed. More likely they were simply assigned their status because of their family's status. If their families were low class and they came to the school with the idea to improve their situation, only to find out that the situation at the school had changed such that the lower class population were now treated as, say, slaves and all opportunity to advance were effectively taken away... That seems to be the situation that they are in, and if that is the case then it is entirely possible that some training would dramatically increase their capabilities.

Yeah this is the way I took it too. It wasn't incompetence that has left most students in the lowest class like it seems to be in the MC's body's case, it was classism (the author took classism literally, lol).

Yes well, my point was more if people including himself couldn't be certain of success even with the full power of the country and the magic community that he was the leader of, no matter what hidden talents this "slave" class has, for them to be better than his previous forces is absurd.
It didn't seem like the country was in a bad state before his death so the demons have to be extremely strong compared to non MC humans. After rebirth corruption seems to be the norm so to fix that up to a state where fighting the demons is possible would take at least 2 generations right?
If the story was going to go the old "heroes matter and armys are just chumps that have no effect" route then it's the same problem really, MC could have just won in his last life.
The most likely plot is that the people that betrayed MC was/is/became demons and MC was too head in the clouds to even notice.

This art style is weir. Its like everything is twisted slightly. The legs are off at a wrong angle, the fabrics rest awkwardly on the joints, the fingers bend round to much and the features warp slightly. It's like the art is dyslexic.
