I'm 100% the explanation is that what he sees is the "spirit world" And the weird things he sees are peoples personal blessing. The over talented maser is glowing, the book smart fiance has a quill in her head, his talent in water magic therefore the crab etc. etc.

In chapter 2 starting page 16, he developed a form of color perception. However, the range was too short to be a substitute for sight. Just enough to learn how to distinguish colors and read books, basically.

How does he know what any of these things are, or look like? The black could be yellow to him. How does he know, or imagine, a hero should look like? It's like the author didn't take two seconds to think how a blind person would actually think and react to seeing things for the first time - it really took some of the bite out of this moment that this character was working towards.

there might be alot of internal feelings involved in what he sees here.

he might have felt his father to be a fluffy character, never really approaching him, but overall being comfy. he might have subconciously felt his mother always looking at him with two eyes, the one trying to be the mother and the one that struggled to see him for what he is. his strong maid got the oni horn, his fiancee which he shared many letters with got the pen. his teacher being a powerful being much like the sun and his aid being the powerful heroic being. though i'm clueless about the crab, maybe he sees himself being an odd fella, so he got an odd follower that spews bubbles and is affiliated to water?

and to be fair it wouldn't be odd for him to see things differently since he had to come up with the whole world and colors on his own. but i bet there's some deeper meaning involved here as well.
