There's this thing called pattern recognition where when you see something happen enough times you learn to recognize it. The moment she looked at a picture of her as a child and thought that she looked familiar I immediately recognized the fact that they are going to have been childhood friends that liked each other a lot but got separated due to some reason. I don't mind the Trope I just feel that it's really overused and wish that the relationship would just develop over time in the story like it has so far.
To be fair, this is you specifically assuming it's childhood friends.
It could literally be they either ran into one another when they were younger in passing--enough to leave an impression but not like they were around one another in school and played together.
Or given we know they both saw the
Belle Fleur at the same event back then, maybe they rain into one another there, specifically, and got into an argument over who would be take the role in the future.
Nothing about what we've been shown says they were friends who drifted apart.
Sure, "pattern recognition" and all that, but it is a bit weird to actually get upset and complain here, before it's even confirmed as to what path the author's going.
