I wonder if he'll figure out that her voice is cursed, and if so, from that, that she's actually a mandragora.

I thought she was just saying things in her mind in chapter 2 when she met him, other than when she spoke to test things out on an animal while the guy was basically incapacitated from a distance. It would be surprising if he heard her voice then.

I also went back to ch2 to check for dialogue and saw none. I'm guessing it might have been in the original novel but not in the adaptation.

She said one line to an animal as a test, which is the first bubble in the flashback. But the "just leave me alone" was something he said in reply when he barely heard someone else near him.
But he was almost fully unconscious at the time, so no telling if he'd actually remember that part.

It is unfortunately impossible for her to have lost her voice after having met that man - there was just no opportunity, since he was fully aware of everything she did after that point, for her to have shouted too loud or something else that caused her to lose her voice while he wasn't near her.

Shame she's stuck in such an impossible social situation - truly the tangled web of lies we weave comes back to bite us.

It's interesting that it works that way. I wonder if any degree of curse works like that. You could give someone a silly, weak curse that doesn't do anything harmful, which would then essentially inoculate them against ever getting affected by a curse that could harm or kill them.
