Mangadex to purge titles for legal reasons

The relevant section has been in the content policy for a while. However, as a platform with user-provided content, there are things we enforce reactively based on legal complaints received. This is pretty standard operation for platforms with high volume of user-provided content. Ether stated what was affected in the current round, and I will refrain from speculating on things we have not received complaints on.

I'd also like to clear up, to the many people who seem unaware, that MD operates within legal compliance, as should've been made painfully aware by this and previous content removals. Like it or not, this is the only option for the continued existence of the site.
You can say its legal compliance as much as you wish (It most certainly isn't) its censorship definitely stemming from being absorbed by a company with a pro censorship stance, its very clear where the views of staff have gone if you have an admin on record stating people are attracted to children and should seek out websites that offer CSAM when the entire conversation has nothing to do with CSAM or children.

The entire conversation is pertaining to entirely legal Manga. This is a piracy website, your entire existence is illegal. You are FAR more illegal than manga you're censoring. If you're following legal directives, you should shut the website down entirely.

Blatantly lying right to our faces. There is zero legal reason for you to remove any content. Absolutely none.

If it's the UK government that's causing problems, move out of the UK.

This content is legal in most countries, so move your servers to those countries.

America has very strong freedom of speech, so move your servers to America.

You are choosing to censor of your own free will, and then lying and shifting the blame.

Again, what was illegal about the series removed?
Might have to deal with UK legality if that's where it was reported. However, what about Noraneko Shoujo? Since I have a hard idea of understanding why that series would even be reported for such things, from what I have briefly seen of it, imo.

Given that MD was created in under a week after the original bato folded, I'd like to think someone else would come to fill the void.

Though admittedly, the legal landscape is a lot different now than it was 8 years ago, and the proportion of manga that is licensed by English publishers is much, much higher than it was.
This is such a shame, MD was the best when it came to reading manga on desktop, and now the retards at the top wants to register in the fucking UK of all places. Maybe I should create it myself.

...the TOS states, and I quote, in Section 18:

"These Terms of Service and your use of the Site are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, applicable to agreements made and to be entirely performed within the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict of law principles."

Section 3.1.1 shouldn't apply to any manga since none of it is illegal content. Photos embedded in galleries is what that should cover but fiction isn't illegal.

If this was instigated by a 3rd party, the legal notice should be posted to let the community have full understanding and not one mod's "trust me bro."

Mangadex is becomming a shithole faster than I thought... Following "the law" but clearly this is a lie, its going full arbitrary so you can go the same route as Crunchyroll, what a bunch of bullshit.
WELL GUYS, WE NEED A NEW DECENT PLATFORM, great opening for the next guys.

Jumping back here because my previous post had a sentence that was poorly worded and came off as too much of a personal attack or moral grandstanding. I also didn't provide enough context on the content being removed, so that's on me.

I've been reading some of the replies, and thank you for voicing your opinions and concerns, whether in this thread or elsewhere. Users want clarification on the removals, so please find it below.

We were made aware of content that goes against our content policy, specifically clause 3.1.1 regarding underage characters in pornographic settings. The content that was removed, and some content still being reviewed, includes entries labelled Mature, with characters that are engaging in sexual intercourse and either:
  • They are clearly very young in appearance, and the content does not confirm that they are adults.
  • The content itself confirms that they are under the age of 18.
Nothing else is being examined at this time. We're currently exploring options to retain the title entry and other non-infringing metadata, but for now, we need to proceed with the removal.
This should've been a resignation notice but you instead just confirmed what everyone was saying with these guidelines. A colossal mass of titles fit under these requisites, including completely regular ones because of sparse scenes.

I'm more curious why MD was registered as a business in the first place, and why this was never announced to the community that made this site what it is.

Plus nobody asked them to register in the UK, the same UK that wants to put ID verification on vague law regarding "sexual" and "harmful" content, I don't understand the people at top?

What legal complaints have you been receiving? If I was one of the official publishers and saw titles under my publishing company, I'd file a complaint for all of them at once, not caring about the genre or "age" of the characters.

Surely you, a staff of a pirating website, are aware how your operation is built on an illegal ground, so what the fuck kind of mental gymnastics you have to do to make this explanation make sense?

Just stop with the vague explanation and come clean bro. Tell us what those complaints are, who's filing them, and why now of all times.

Unless you don't want your users finding out the truth behind this?

It's kinda ironic when the west is in full force to ban anything about loli, all the while they are being led and overrun by pedophiles and cannibals from top to bottom... but eh, I think it's easier to do than dealing with the actual things you can do nothing about? At least you can feel good about it, I guess. Still it's so weird when someone equalizing loli to real cp...
