Is the LN still going on?

If from the end of the manga, the manga ends at LN volume 2.

LN has 5 volumes and says that part 1 is finished. And there are no more volumes after that.

The art was the one saving point of this dumpster fire. Don't blame the artist for the author's lack of focus and abandoning of the project.

Still it was getting really tropey and tiresome with the constant shounen powerups

It sounds like the LN might have gotten axed but the author couldn't outright say it was cancelled. Talked about dreaming of coming back to it and hoping for it to get an anime to set off a miraculous revival.

Yeah that ax makes sense. The previous arc did finally get going around chapter 41 but that took way too long, at least 10 chapters of useless filler between action scenes. This story's biggest weakness was a lack of any real effort put in by the main lead. There were very few training scenes. Not that he would have needed them anyways because his power conveniently allowed him to learn on the fly. That meant the fight scenes were resolved without serious effort on the main lead's end while the chapters between fights did not contribute to the story. I would have wanted more scenes of alliances between demons rather than pointless school festivals. The retainers did not evolve beyond the three girls from the start of the story; I would have wanted more to join.

As for characters, most were fine. The youngest retainer needed fleshing out although this would likely have happened had the ax not occurred. I would have also wanted more dimension from the villians, perhaps giving their own circumstances as to why they were fighting beyond "Because I'm evil". The demons around Yuuto were allowed depth, why not anyone else. Perhaps more depth to Yuuto would have also helped, such as mixing his demon life with his above-world life by showing some of his former friends (if he had any) although that may be a limitation caused by being an adaptation.

Ending was weak and there were not enough strong points in the story to overcome my frustration during weak points. 4/10 (although, I did read this whole story in under 24 hours)

Same here. I was reading through my updated listed, noticed this was completed, and came here to check if the ending was decent. I think I'll just drop this now, and see what else I can drop...I mean read
