@blablablub "turn" is one of those English words with a LOT of semi-archaic meanings or possible interpretations. I usually think of it as being used in the "to cause to rebound or recoil" sense here (turn away undead, basically)... but it could also be turn as in defection, as in turning the undead from the darkness to the light. Like casting heal on an undead or blessing a vampire when it sneezes.

@blablablub If you want to get literal, "turn undead" means it turns things that are undead, because "undead" is the subject of the verb, which is what it does when it's used to make the undead flee. If you wanted to turn something into undead, the spell should be called something like "turn corpse undead" instead. It makes sense to infer the subject like you want to also, but it doesn't make "turn undead" in the typical sense incorrect.

@blablablub My dude, Turn has plenty of meanings, and you're hung up on the wrong meaning entirely.
Salfaro already explained to you the grammatical nature of 'turn undead' but you... chose to disregard that and double down?

It Turns the undead, it doesn't turn [into] undead. Interpreting it as [turn into] undead when it's "turn undead" is more grammatically incorrect than how you're acting like the actual meaning is.

WHY DIDN'T YOU USE THAT FROM THE BEGINNING?!

This is why you don't trust demons, people....

@Tamerlane cause maybe only humans can use said magic, you know him hiding the fact and all, and it's a magic he never tried for most of his life besides reading it.

@Tamerlane Probably because being able to use white magic is suspicious.

Also getting a kick out of people arguing over "turn undead". That's such a classic D&D (and hell, a million other things) spell. Turn Undead usually comes in two flavors, either causing the undead to recoil in fear, or literally be destroyed. This work appears to ascribe to the later version.
