@Jorelm & @zStella: Several online dictionaries that I've consulted actually confirm that "forelock(s)" not only has "lock(s) of hair that grow(s) from the fore part of a person's head" as a possible meaning, but it apparently isn't considered rare or dated in usage.

For the record, the Japanese term for forelocks/bangs is "maegami", literally "front hair".

My last partner, who is quite like the Princess in various ways, had a similar situation with her fringe.
Except it was my fault. I cut it badly. She never let me bring scissors near her hair again after that.

"Forelocks" was an interesting choice of words. I'm guessing it was needed for wordplay to translate. I dread to imagine what her fringe might have been called otherwise.
