dropkick on my devil, not sure which season or episode though.sauce
There is one problem with your assumptions. Namely you assume that the guy running his mouth here is actually competent and the mastermind of the conspiracy. This feels like the author is trying to do some political intrigue plot... But just not very well as the stakes are just not that big of a deal.
Next time...:
- "Oooh, let's try to convince people that the Hero shouldn't have that title."
- "What will that let us do?"
- "We'll be able to get some political power by controlling the new hero, which we can then use to affect which prince inherits the kingdom."
- "Alright, how will you do that?"
- "Well, we'll make a big incident that would take real heroics to fix, like a zombie mind control plague thing in a city. So when the Hero fails to do that, we'll have perfect justification."
- "But isn't your problem that you wanted to convince people that the actual Hero isn't qualified? That's kind of exactly what she's supposed to be able to do."
- "Oh, damnit, you're right. Ok, instead, we'll make a big incident that would take real heroics to fix, like a monster horde invading the city. So when the Hero fails to do that, we'll have perfect justification."
- "That's just the same bad idea again."
- "Ok, I'll throw a ball, invite the Hero, and bribe everyone to criticize the Hero to her face."
- "What will they criticize her about?"
- "That she hasn't been able to do anything heroic and is completely failing to live up to her role as a Hero."
- "... But won't she have just solved two major monster-related crises that you made? That seems pretty heroic to me. And how do you keep causing monster related incidents by the way? Are you a demon lord?"
- "What? No... Of course not... But that's actually a good idea. I'll bribe all of the nobles again and have them start a rumor that she's sleeping with a demon lord. That's definitely not heroic behavior."
- "Pfft, who would believe that? You're just throwing your money away."
All it would do is admit that the kingdom has the attention of an unbeatable entity, whose whims concerning a single human girl decide whether they can keep existing or not. It's the kind of thing that ends nations, either by having people running for the hills or inviting further militant extremism, which began this whole debacle in the first place, as you'll soon see.Literally all the king has to do is say "Look, two immensely powerful beings who live in the forbidden forest on our border have said they'll remain non-hostile so long as we don't disturb them and we keep Nell in the position of Hero as long as she wants" and if pressed, say that one of them is Leficios and the other is a Demon Lord recognized by the Demon King as his equal, who also happens to be the new king of the dragons. (I almost gave novel spoilers for his other qualifications, whoops).
Or just say "By the way, Nell's husband is also the husband of the SUPREME DRAGON, and she and Nell are good friends. Let's maybe not piss them off? Does that sound reasonable?"
After either of those statements, any noble who tries to remove Nell from her position - or worse, harm her - is gonna be knowingly inviting the wrath of the supreme dragon upon the country, and could reasonably be executed for treason/domestic terrorism/etc just for trying.
Exactly, why the hell is the King even entertaining this nonsense? Just "question" the moron trying to push for Nell to be removed about his co-conspirators and illustrate what would happen if she was to be removed as Hero(just use the stampede she wiped out as an example). If there was anyone remotely close to her in terms of power I'd understand, because she does have split loyalties right now(as far as anyone who only has a surface understanding of her relationship with Yuki would assume) but a simple conversation would probably go a long way towards understanding the depth of their relationship and that she isn't just a trophy or maiden to be captured and kept from harm by keeping her locked up in Yuki's domain.Literally all the king has to do is say "Look, two immensely powerful beings who live in the forbidden forest on our border have said they'll remain non-hostile so long as we don't disturb them and we keep Nell in the position of Hero as long as she wants" and if pressed, say that one of them is Leficios and the other is a Demon Lord recognized by the Demon King as his equal, who also happens to be the new king of the dragons. This is stupid. The king has JUST SAID before his little show that the rumors are traitorous nonsense and then he immediately goes on attacking Nell non-stop. It's like putting a sign on yourself saying "I'm a traitor trying to sow discord!"
Now his little tirade would have made more sense if he started off with that rant and then the king addressed him saying that it was traitorous nonsense and him shutting up afterwards.

There is also the Tiny bit that one of the Parties is a "Dungeon Demon Lord". As in not a member of the species but a Monster born in the Dungeon. The thing the Church sworn itself to fight against. Admitting you consider a Demon Lord your Ally is a sure fire way to make the Church your enemy and to get Nell in worlds of Trouble. All it would do is admit that the kingdom has the attention of an unbeatable entity, whose whims concerning a single human girl decide whether they can keep existing or not.
