I suspected there was a mixin thanks for confirming. I didn't know there was an older notation, when I entered the chess world in school, now 14 years ago, we only used the modern one.

The international notation, or 'algebraic' notation, has pretty much taken over. There used to be several different ones in use. The one I was referring to was the English descriptive notation, which was used in the English-speaking world until the 80s or so, and I believe was also used in the Far East. Since I'm an old fart, it's the one I learned.
