I'm not the one sexualizing it, nor does the term really refer to sexualized content at all. It's more so used to refer to splatter-type films and the like where torture and killing is a common theme. I'm using it in an exaggerated sense here, since obviously the content of Maou Sama Retry doesn't heavily focus on these themes. This explicitly was put into the manga as a means of pandering to a demographic that would enjoy such content though. There are plenty of other meaningful ways to go about making a character look worse in these circumstances, like through psychological abuse. The author specifically chose to make this a gore tease for such people, which is fine, but it's not content I enjoy personally, especially when it pertains to small children characters.

Are there really so many directly gore-loving people around that they would be a significant enough audience, to pander to them specifically? The larger audience, I believe, just likes to hate a horrifying villain and see him/her defeated, but you have to create the villain first. For that the author needs to show the villain performing terrible acts.

You say there are plenty of other ways around, but we already had the psychological way shown before. In earlier chapters we saw Organ was ostracised, she was called a worthless mutt, more or less, and she was bullied. It lasted her whole childhood, until she fled. Only in this chapter we saw that the (mainly) psychological abuse wasn't all of it, it was physical torture in addition to it.

Just the ones already reading, specifically. Fan service for a particular group, if you will. And yes, there are probably enough people reading who enjoy torture scenes to cater to them once in a while, which is what this feels like and why I made my first comment. It's not as niche as you'd think, especially in isekai, where there are a lot of revenge-type plots that tend to deliver to these same crowds.

This is cheap and one-dimensional. It detracts from the character because he's just a gore-crazed maniac. I would have preferred he not been written so linearly. He's evil for the sake of being evil. Rather than hating him, this entire ordeal just made him come across as goofy to me, especially considering he's about to get slapped by our MC in the very next chapter more than likely. Instead of making the readers hate him more, this was probably done to build suspense for the upcoming chapter(s).

I'm gonna be honest, I wasn't so much commenting on potential character motivation or narrative reasoning, just the content itself that grossed me out. I didn't even remember who Belphegor was prior to this chapter because comprehending what I had just read with some of the previous machine translated chapters was difficult and the releases were sparse apart. Regardless, I stand firm in my belief that the author had not written himself so far into a corner that this was the only narratively coherent way to continue the story or portray Belphegor in the same manner without literal loli torture.

I do one chapter at a time, the Tl and the fonts are all haywire. So, if I do this one a few chapters at a time, it would have some consistency.🙂

if you still have no idea why its bad, with the current 1st page it feels like you trying to hide the fact you're translating with MTL while trying to pass it off as your own, intended or not

if you put TL above the CL & TS, put the MTL above that stylized devilbro, same color and same size(following the staircase gap), it would have better impression than the current one

but if your personality is just as same as your reply attitude, i have a feeling you wouldn't care at all
