I... I was so caught off guard. I checked like three times, that kiss came out of nowhere and it was, just as so many are saying, so casual or natural.
It shows both how comfortable they are with each other and also that they have good emotional maturity.

@Vrizu A grade-schooler? Really? It is like you didn't read the previous arcs and this chapter. Her way of dealing with the bullying issue is way more mature than most highschoolers. Even in this chapter, her thought about her family business and the happiness of people buying their sweet is really deep, not something kids would think about. Despite her bubbly appearance, she is a lot more mature deep down due to her family situation.
You really believe the words of a few old men who don't know her personally? From what I see, Hina has been liking Rei but she held herself back thinking she didn't deserve it.
Also the "Japanese's age-of-consent is 13" is false. Each prefecture has their own law which raises the age way higher. As long as these two don't do anything sexual, they are fine, Rei himself is still a minor too, due to the Civil Code of Japan considers anyone under 20 a minor.

I think that miyako19 really hit the nail on the head with their comments. There is a world of difference between being childlike and being childish, although many people never notice that. I also have to commend Umino Sensei with how incredibly smoothly and delicately she handled Hina and Rei's romance from the time of the school festival. Contrary to the "Harlequin universe," romance is not a slightly sanitized porn movie, and doesn't have to have a blow by blow description (bad pun NOT intended) to be touching and beautiful.

Yes she is dense in the romance department, but that alone does not mean she has the mentality of a primary schooler. Also keep in mind that she had the intial thought of him being suitable for Akane.
How about that entire arc about her being bullied, or the appearance of her father? Also how she acted at the obon in one of the few first chapters? She is stronger and more mentally grown than many of us so-called adults can be, even if this manga is fiction.
