You don’t necessarily need to be as smart as a ‘smart’ character to write one, but you do need to do a better job of setting up a trail of evidence. What’s happening here is that because maria’s kills up to this point were set up to be basically perfect, okaya had to reach his conclusion from practically no evidence.

A better author would have made it so that maria missed small details that pointed in her direction. Hell, even if they had been retroactively inserted into scenes that weren’t on camera, it would still have been better than this. But nah, we get insane leaps of logic that only make sense if you’re trying to work backward from an already known conclusion.
Or forced Okaya to actually, you know, investigate something. Anything. Just the tiniest amount of legwork. The only fact he has is someone broke into the Cop Dad's house and that he got as fourth hand rumor driving by two random gossiping women.

Not just a super genius psychic but hearing like a Labrador.

I could off been convinced that previous chapters "ass-pulls" of supposed genius-master-villain weren't really that much off ass-pulls, but this chapter just gone beyond retarded. Even Sherlock Holmes wouldn't be able to deduce shit like that from just the way a bullied kid behaved/spoke, especially with "way of speaking being genetic" bullshit lmao.

That reminds me. I wonder if the ex-husband knows whos actually behind his son's death
I think no. The ex-husband is too busy climbing the carrier ladder that he barely know about his family. plus Maria probably hiding the letters/evidence that the son get bullied.

I thought she might kill him, however he might still have some use or she has found some unresolved emotions for her son and placing them upon him.

Thanks for the translation Stressed Out Scans

This is my thinking. She has a soft spot for this kid because he is also a victim of the bullies like her son, she’s already seeing a part of her son in him - hence why she’s keeping him alive and letting him stay at her place.

Plot wise this means he will be the perfect victim for the bullies. The bullies are meant to be these manipulative badasses that are untouchable but up until this point they haven’t done much. They’ll come a point where the tables will turn on Maria and she will “lose” to them - my thinking is that they’ll kill this kid.

It’s usually how these mangas go.

Is it me or the art kinda dropped?
I was thinking that. Even the character designs looked slightly different in parts.

Whole thing is an asspull to begin with. Okaya is just a step short of becoming Sherlock fucking Holmes. Remember, in order to write smart characters, you need to be at least equally smart for them to appear genuine. This is not the case here. Okaya knows things because he just does (aka story needs to happen)
Actually, you can write characters much smarter than you without relying on bs.
It's simply having all clues there properly, but have the smart character be capable of connecting them much quicker

Wonder how much the editor interferes, b/c while it does seem like bs at least there's not too much stuff like her sucking the principal's dick again

Unless it's like "i'll get to okaya by seducing his father" but hopefully a therapist wouldn't fall for such a shallow trick unless it's an open secret he's been having affairs for years lol

I feel like it should end fast instead of stretching it into a mind game for 200 ch type manga

No idea, but I suspect that Okaya gets triggered or something, and the other kid is trying to avoid that

Taking Maria's words to mean more like, " you're a liability, stay out of the way".
That, and also, "hide here so Okaya can't find you," as well as, "you said you were homestaying in other people's houses so might as well look the part."

"This is obviously too good to be true."
My reaction, Maria. Same.

They actually had imagery of the two in some kind of mental chess match. The situation was just begging for it, and the mangaka delivered. Not saying they're actually masterminds or anything, though. It's not like only masterminds, geniuses and grandmasters are allowed to play chess, after all. At least they look good while playing, but I'm not telling if they're any good at it. (mostly because I hate chess and can't tell if someone is better than the other at it in the middle of a match)

So Yuda's mom was already caught in the spiderweb, but the spider chose to let her go unscathed. Huh. Yuda will be kept basically on house arrest (for his own good), but they did just say he was gonna train too. Training arc? Now that Okaya's backed off the trail and let Yuda's mom go, the pressure to act is (temporarily) lifted and now Maria has some time again.
