This is very similar to true life bullying, they pick the introvert guy who like to stay by himself. And also it connect to a widespread japanese mentality that bullied people are responsible for their own bullying, cause this mean they have no social skills and need to learn how to get along with the others.
His bullies are all some flavour of social butterflies, and use their "popularity" to obtain what they want and as an excuse to put "unpopular" people under their thumb and make them feel shit about themselves, using the already mentioned mentality that "this is your fault for being a looser".
The theme of this revenge manga is all about that. Making these bullies realize that their "popularity" doesn't make them any better. They are still trash, they have no real friends, and nobody truly like them cause they are shitty people that enjoy to torment others.

But this punishment is fitting for the girl's insecurities(loneliness). A thing I want to say is that I kinda dislike that Maria is letting them get "a chance to live", like why not just kill them lmao?

Because she wants to make them suffer. There is nothing more hurtful than hope. They have, in their mind, the possibility of escaping by doing the right decision, yet Maria knows that they will fail miserably because of the kind of person they are.
The first one realized that Maria is his victim's mother, the passcode for the lock should be obvious after that, but it was an information he never had.

Same will happen to this girl. Doesn't matter who she contact, they will ignore her or simply don't understand her message, and she will die thinking that her follower count doesn't mean she had X friends that care about her.
