My personal guess is that skill originally is the sage's skill, she's the one who teaches the magic swordsman and the saintess

Isn't that a metaphor? As in, if you're a good support, others can fight as if they had infinite mana, so the only thing they have to worry about is kicking butt. And they can trust you to watch back them up at all times because that's your job.
I mean, he did explain to his partymates how it works, so it wasn't a big secret. It's only the hero who chose to be an ignorant meathead about it.

Similar to how a tank and healer combo is. A good healer will make the party (ESPECIALLY the tank) not really aware of how much health they actually have, so they can just run in and do their ownjobs without worry, since they know the healer's doing their job and doing it well. All that matters in the long run is the difference between 1 and 0, anything else is just semantics to a healer XD

The only thing I go against the MC's case is that he should make them aware of their mana comsumption. Not during battle, but they should know how they relied on him and how they should adapt in case they get separated by a trap, for example.

Why worry about separation when they all have their emergency strand of hair?

The girls immediately ditched their party item, but the guy who was literally banished didn't? that seems off. Given how the hero was bragging about how special the status of that item was, you'd think he'd demand it back from the MC.

He just wanted to get rid of him, so the item loss was a small price to pay: here instead they are used as a way to coerce the girls.

Not that he had any chance, seeing how thirsty they are for MC's D...

As in: "the ideal mana porter won't let his party exhaust their mana, so that they can focus all their attention on the fight and not on mana management"
