Bro you invented literally every household item as a CHILD. How do you think so little of yourself? If Einstein came from a family of famous soldiers, he'd still be freaking Einstein. Though he'd actually have an excuse for low self-esteem because Einstein didn't invent a centuries worth of technological revolution when he was a pre-teen. 😭 This is so painful. You've already done amazing things as a child that no one in your family could've accomplished and just proved your amazing in the field of magic period (even if lower than your family of super amazing mages you're at least better than most people) AND we know your dad constantly sung your praises and acknowledged your worth. Where is this low self esteem coming from? Please have a flashback later on of bullying from the brother or grandfather or something.

Hm usually in these types of stories, the family's oppression of the "untalented" ones leads to an understandable feeling of uselessness. In this case, is it just because he wasn't able to get a job? Or was it self inflicted because he reveres his godlike family so much?

I must say, Nem does not inspire confidence as a common sense tutor. Especially saying "together"
Are we experiencing a meta narrative now, since "learning common sense" is the vocally stated objective, and not something that simply lives on in the background?

Its less reveres, and more like, he had no exposure to anyone, BUT his family. He doesn't understand taht his family is the exception, he thinks they are the base standard of the world.

this manga would be perfect if the MC didn't see captain's power and vice-captain's power at the exam. the story tries to tell you that he lacks common sense because he's only seen his family's ridiculous power, but also because of that the moment he sees others' power shouldn't his reaction be "why is their power so low?"
and he is a huge magic nerd and his control over magic is vastly superior to everyone (even in his family), and he comments about how "good" the vice-captain is at controlling her magic in chapter 1.1. which means he can tell if someone is suppressing their power. which prove my point about he can see the difference in power level of his family and other people even more.
this is his reaction on magic power, I haven't talked about his reaction about magic control. his first impression to the vice-captain should not be "good" it should be something like "are they pretending to be bad at controlling magic?" because that "good" should be "meh" compared to his family. And I'm just talking about his family, not him.

isn't his new job a little too much of a downgrade? as someone who's been doing revolutionary industrial research, for him to suddenly go and play around on the battlefield is a little...

I'm actually amazed how our protagonist is told he lacks common sense right in the first chapter and then they still avoid telling him what exactly it is he has the wrong idea about. They could have told him the issue right there at the exam site. Whether he'd actually believe it is another matter entirely, but they didn't even try. I can already envision it: he'll regularly get told he has no common sense and will need to do his push-ups, but he won't actually learn and will believe he's useless for most of the story, because they'll be teaching him common sense as vaguely as humanly possible in a "Figure it out yourself" way.

It's probably closer to a "Tatoeba Last Dungeon" situation yeah.

elephant in the room but... displaying amazing control over something you have never personally produced??? that's not 'theory' anymore thats just plot induced god-mode 😅

will the lore backstory reveal that he has next-level magic perception that doesnt require magic/mana of his own to operate? did his family pump endless amounts of mana into him as a child so he could get hands on experience? (I know how a grenade is structured&made, doesn't mean I can just construct one as soon as I get my hands on the tools and materials...)

story looks like it "could" be a good one, but it reeks of: "we found this odd rat and locked it in a box and when we came back the next day 'einsteins theory of relativity' was scratched into the walls" 😅 I can suspend disbelief when it suits the narrative but even that has limits...
