The Thunder Gods have pretty consistently played into inflating Ren's ego so I'd guess they're trying to push her to do something stupid, possibly cause a strife within the Mato corp. All of her interactions with Yuuki have centered around him being the dominant one and as a counter to her inflated ego so my guess would be she tries to take him for herself but ends up the one on the bottom.

Boy there's a fucking trap if ever I've seen one. There's no way that Ren's dumb enough to fall for it, so why the hell would Shikoku offer herself up like that?

Dumb? No... but she is overconfident, and that confidence has been hurt a little since Yuuki.

The thematic of this story shows that no ability is perfect there has to be a mechanical weakness or limitations, or a flaw with the user, and for all her power... I think Ren's weakness is in her mind, and mind games seem to be Shikoku's specialty.

If Shikoku observed Ren for a time trying to see a chink in her armor the best bet is that she will attack Ren in her confidence.

Yes Shikoku is obviously plotting something, but part of the trap is that Ren can't just attack her even if she does suspect her. Attacking an envoy raising a white flag will only reflect badly on her and the whole corps, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Gods of Thunder then tried to use that as ammo and start a smear campaign to undermine humanity's faith in the corps and cause general chaos.

So, Ren will naturally be wary, but still hear what she has to say. As for Shikoku's goal, I agree that this is likely yet another ploy to build up Ren's ego higher and higher so that when it topples it'll create as much destruction as possible.
