[MEGATHREAD] Tags Suggestions

This thread is for suggesting and discussing new tags to be implemented in MangaDex. To suggest a new tag, please follow the guidelines below.

Guidelines:​

1. Your tag should represent a broad theme or concept that applies to a wide range of content. Providing examples is encouraged to clarify where it would be used.
2. Tags should be clear, easy to understand. Try to avoid suggesting tags that are too abstract or based on niche references that might confuse others.
3. Avoid suggesting tags that could closely overlap with existing ones. If unsure, check our Tags Definition for guidance, ask if you're still unsure.
4. Provide a clear explanation of the tag's purpose and what type of content it is meant to categorize.
5. Tags should primarily focus on describing content itself, rather than factors related to its production or presentation. Tags that focus on external conditions or processes are not in line with this rule.
6. Tags promoting content that violates site rules won't be accepted.

Important:​

Anything falling under the banner of "porn tags" is currently pending a tag rework. We're in need of a system for categorizing these tags that will allow us to flag them appropriately and segregate them from the main list of tags.

There's no question mangadex is the most scanlator friendly site, would be lovely to have some organized way of collecting and preserving the image based guides and font sheets people in the scene make

Separation of actual historical tag and “western themed fictional setting not on earth”​

Title says it all. Idk what you would call it, western setting…?

I know that adding alot of tags reduces their value, novelupdates is a good example of too many, but I feel like there’s a ton of works that would justify being put under that instead of “historical“ (looking at you every single Korean manga ever).

ideally historical tag will only take place in works based on... historical time periods or events and the other tag will be used for fictional settings not on earth.


I made this post because I am so tired of looking through the 100th medivial fantasy manga about a reborn protagonist vowing to get revenge when I just want something related to the past on earth

A lot of tags is actually useful! The more you have the more value they have when searching for titles.
MangaDex is lacking compared to what I'm used to.
But that is only as long as they are placed appropriately and what you are saying is justified.

Excluding Isekai or Reincarnation tags, or maybe Fantasy as well, does reduce most (I reckon 90% but don't quote me on this) of those fictional/fantasy historically themed works you mentioned. But yeah, would be nice to separate theme

I could, but sometimes reincarnation tag falls under what I’m talking about (reborn in the past), and ofc not excluding it leaves thousands of copy paste “reborn as empress in fantasy land“

for isekai ig that works but doesn’t solve the issue yeah

Like I don't want to go full on hentai tags but some a clearly useful non non erotic series. Maybe part of the "report" feature we can submit tags, and then in the form a voting system and be created for that series where users who has the series followed/completed can vote to see which tag fits what?

Mtl tagging has been discussed at length in other threads and is not going to happen. Also it would require chapter tags to be a thing.

Chapter tags should be a thing.
There are a bunch of anthologies on this site where a single manga entry contains multiple stories from multiple authors. It'd be useful to apply tags to individual chapters in such cases.

This is a prime example of something that would benefit from per-chapter tagging in an anthology where one rotten author can ruin it for everyone.

Childcare

Childcare stories are becoming increasingly popular, so I absolutely support this.

Slavery

On the other hand, I think a Slavery tag would be useless. The topic is just far too broad to form a meaningful opinion of a manga based on a tag alone. Is it main characters, side characters, or background characters that are enslaved? Was anyone enslaved against their will or did they sell themselves into slavery? Or maybe it is only criminals that are enslaved and used as labor for the state? That last one is not too different from a regular prison system.

I think the most basic tag that should be added is and will continue to be female and male protagonist. Why I don't mind reading either protagonist. I still prefer reading from the woman's perspective personally. But I know a lot of people want to read from the guys to. And some stories it doesn't matter either way. But it really is odd we don't have these tags.

There's a ton of good ones as well that should be added. Just to help you find those hard to find stories. That fit the rich your looking for.
