I personally prefer Kay's translations over the others. For all the different translations I've read, Kay is the best one. Besides, why shouldn't they receive donations for their work??

It's just a moral thing.

Let's say you are a translator too and have been translating a manhwa for several months, making it popular with the constant releases (I know the manhwa isn't really made by translators, but people wouldn't know about these manhwas if not for translators).
So yeah, at that point, the manhwa is basically your child since you spent so much time on it... then here comes some new guy, randomly joins in from chapter.. let's say 200, and have been sharing around his donation links to basically feed off of the manhwa's popularity, which, once again, you made popular over several months or even years.

Now, you probably can't imagine this and I can't really come up with a better comparison, but don't you think it's quite rude as hell? In my eyes, it's basically just greediness and morally wrong.

As for your preference; Kay admitted already he is using AI and other machine translators to translate. I know MTL can be certainly good if you actually take your time proofreading and making sure the translation is good for each chapter, but at that point, the 3 other translations are good enough too, no? They are most likely using the same MTL too, just maybe not proofread well.

I just checked and apparently he is also sharing early chapters on his ko-fi / patreon. He shared ch216 there for free as an apology because of some issues he's been having recently (even though other versions already uploaded 216), so I'm not sure if he puts other chapters there or not for paid supporters, but you get my idea.

Plus, he's been promoting in other chapters how he takes commissions to translate other stuff on his ko-fi. This basically means if someone pays him, he'd be willing to snipe even more series, which just rubs me the wrong way, because this isn't "translating what I love for my own enjoyment", this is just leeching off a popular manhwa for money (as for the self-pity how he does everything himself from cleaning, translating, typesetting... well, big deal, a lot of people do that, I alone carry over 10 different series alone lol)

In the end, it's his decision and I can't stop him, but I just had one question, why?

There's no reason needed to snipe trashlators. Plus, said trashlators usually stick exclusively to their ad-ridden websites explicitly making bank off of the original work; meanwhile, this guy asks for donos (a voluntary thing, even if it does come with some bonuses) yet still makes it available for free on mangadex.

Taking commissions to scanlate stuff? Yeah, that's and "advanced translator", so to speak; also does lettering, cleaning, redrawing etc. Translators very often work on commission and very often have extremely tight living budgets. Is he making money off of the original, though? No, he's making money off of people who want to see the stuff early or want to donate.

That's the dumbest comment I've ever read. You basically looked at what I wrote, didn't register a single thing, and decided to write your own thoughts without even caring about other matters looool.

Let me clarify;
1st. You CAN'T "make a bank" on ads, ads barely give sh*t, but I'm sure you know better.

2nd. There are 3 translators for this manhwa, add this dude in it and it has 4. Even if all 3 are 'trashlators', don't forget how Kay is also using AI to translate.

3rd. The other groups are also making it free on another site, comick.io in this case, even earlier than Kay.

4th. You said this guy asks for donos which is a voluntary thing, but he made a ko-fi page, a patreon page, also shares his paypal, and keeps pasting these 3 links every few panels or so across the chapter, just check chapter 216. We get it he wants money, but stop pushing it down our throat maybe? (Not even mentioning how at the end of the chapter it's always "omg i'm so pitiful pls donate it'd help a lot"

5th. The commission comment was more about how he doesn't mind sniping other manhwas if someone commissioned him for it, also as I mentioned, even if he does everything alone, big deal dude, it's not as hard as you make it out to be, I carry 10 manhwas alone doing everything, so if he is so poor and pitiful, then what about me? lol

6th. He is not a translator to make a living off of his works, he is just a ""leech"" who decided to join in AI translating this manhwa, riding on its popularity, from chapter 195 or so, and if he wants to make a living off of this he is basically no better than those trashlators based on what you said.

Edit: As I said before, most people will never understand what's actually wrong with this until they themselves have something they are passionate about and have been working on it for a long time before achieving something, so I get it that you think this is all good, but I always say imagine yourself in a scanlator's shoes. You start a manhwa from chapter 1, translate all 190 chapters by yourself achieving great popularity with your translations, then some random dude joins in and asks for donations while sniping your manhwa, it definitely wouldn't feel good.
