Thanks for the oneshot :D
I'm checking this out to prepare for WITCHRIV, Hakuri's Jump+ serialization that starts on October 23. I don't usually go to such lengths for Jump+ series, but this piqued my interest because, well, witches are neat.
Anyways, that was a fun oneshot. The two twists were nice: Danke being bad and Lara being good is an interesting take on the typical story involving a strict parent, and the moral of the story being to not rely on magic is kind of funny but oddly fitting.
There's definitely more ground that can be covered here in terms of worldbuilding. I'm interested in learning more about what witches can do and why humans want to hunt them. Magic is defined rather generally here as "magic," meaning there is a lot of space for more specific magic mechanisms to be developed.
I also rather enjoyed the characterization here. Merrily had no trait that makes them stand out, but they feel very human. She's definitely a protagonist I wouldn't mind following in a longer serialization. Lara's character is given some nuance as well; I like the reveal at the end that she's actually just as human as humans are, except she's just repressing her emotions to protect her daughter.
I'll be looking forward to the full serialization.
