I'm guessing that publically showing off an indestructible ship can gain a lot of investment. It's still dangerously close to messing with his goose and a lot can go wrong. What if it gets out that Wataru is the Mage? That could be enough for Wataru to say "Can't trust you, see you never." What if the boat is destroyed? It won't, but the guild master doesn't know it won't with 100% certainty.

There was no "has" there, there was just a "might." There's no blackmail intent, just getting on his good side. Obviously yes, secrets can always be used as blackmail material but the wording doesn't convey an intent to use it as such.

It does make it seem more like this test is less about "Can we maybe just take the ship ourselves?" and more "He really is as safe on that thing as he says he is, right?"

I'm not sure if I'm the only one feeling this, but the story is going all over the place. The story at first was just him doing things so that he can buy newer and bigger ships. I want it to go back to that, more simple life, less of this hiding and political sh*t.
