The way I see it, the horseface is some kind of protector spirit. He only protects dad and only in house. So when Hana tried to exorcise dad, the horseface proceed to get in between. The bitterness it felt when licking means its refusal at combat, probably means that the target is something of divinity so it's not to the liking of the horseface (the bracelet as a divine exorcism tool, the tentacles as some kind of forest spirits/deity). When Michiru gave out pudding and the tentacles reacted, the horseface immediately protected dad first the same way with Hana, then it proceed to get a taste of the tentacles. But It showed its unwillingness in combat by stating bitter, and the tentacles knew that as the same way with Hana so It withdrawn. As for this chapter. dad coming outside to protect the family by putting him in danger so the horseface will protect him and devour the woman spirit. This also confirms that the horseface only protects him, not other members of his family since if it protects others, there is no need for dad to come up front.
