Huh interesting, so it’s pretty much confirmed the “old man” isn’t a reaper. With Seto and Ron‘s explanation, I’m assuming when you perceive reality everything seems to be in order but “ghosts” defy said order so that reality happens around them. Most people aren’t able to perceive the “ghosts”, so it just seems like random events happening but the “ghosts” exist overlapping in that part of reality making those events. Seto is able to fix these anomalies by exterminating them thus fixing problems and that’s what makes him seem like such a reliable individual in the eyes of normal people I.e. his coworkers. Apparitions regardless of type are causes for burden in the mind of Seto which is why he exterminates without prejudice. Though with that in mind I’m curious as to what Seto’s goons are now. They don’t appear to be normal ghosts, and with Ron’s explanation of using a mod to progress maybe Seto made them or it’s an extension of Seto himself. Considering in the flashback Seto only had one guy maybe he makes more by using other ghosts? The power system seems to be life energy and something opposite that makes ghosts, ghost get stronger by absorbing other ghosts which then in turn allows them to interfere with the world more. On the other side maybe gods and blessing are made from life energy which is why they can neutralize the ghosts and usually require sacrifices to maintain. The whole thing seems like acids and bases and reality is neutral.
yeah, but i think the middle aged man is a grim reaper but a very different sort of, a serial killer, the interesting part is that guy doesn't care about possessing a powerfull vessel, contrary to the other ghost, he is only interested into miko, and the reason is because she can see him, he doesn't want to be seen, he is the equivalent of the shy guy from the scp, you see him, you are dead like the father, the only reason romm is not attacked is because he can't see the shy guy, but he nearly die because he spot him on the photo.

from what we can know, miko and her father possess a very rare ability, the "true sight" they are able to see spirits and god in their true form, like the skull butler that ask them to leave the restaurant in that chapter, or the horsedogthing, they can even determine if they are good or rotten spirit, not bad because some have a horrible apparence but are not evil.

If that middle aged man is the Reaper, i wonder what is the Hooded-Santa-looking ghost in the trains are? I mean, he killed and absorb evil spirit that possessing people right?
i think that guy is the equivalent of seto, he hunt bad spirit, the equivalent of a shinigami from the soul society like in bleach.

My take on it.

There is "something" there, in all these places. Whether human spirits (like her dad, or the family in the hospital) or random yokai type spirits, the person viewing them may go off their subconcious thoughts of what they could actually look like. Why Miko can see them better than Romm or Mitsue, I can't guess.

Why the middle aged man looks the way he does.. its uncanny valley effect. Whats more scary than someone that "looks normal" but really isnt, you could walk past this guy on the street and pay him no mind, but the time you actually look at him.. he seems off.

Remember, the real monsters, are the ones that don't look like monsters.
i think the best way to explain that is to think that reality is composed of 2 layer, on the first layer, you can find living people and the like, the material layer, on the second the spiritual layer, ghost stuck where they rot and errand for eternity unless they use a "mouthhell" to pass to another existence, separate from reality.

for normal people, they can't see the spiritual layer because between the material world and the spiritual world, there are many "tracing paper" before there eyes, hence the analogy with the folded map by seto.

the medium and alike are people that possess less layer of "tracing paper', hence their ability to see ghost.

but miko doesn't possess that layer of tracing paper, that why she is able to see everything.

I get the feeling that the restaurant ghost, was telling seto to leave Miko alone. Starting to think that most of the ghosts are chill.
Edit: ignore this reply I'm a dumbass who didn't realize that someone already answered this with what I also think. of course they did lol, mb

I mean that's a nice interpretation, but once the Suit Gang sits on the other table, the restaurant ghost leaves. despite Seto still being in the same table with Miko.. if the resto-ghost motive is to make Seto stop talking to Miko then the issue isn't solved at all.

so I think the ghost actually only has issue with how the Suit Gang was hovering around Miko-Romm-Seto-Mitsue table and standing to the side there, not the fact that Seto is there. It's rude to be blocking their paths out to the bathroom or something lol :meguusmug:

Honestly, the most disturbing part of the chapter for me, horse-skull-tentacle-headed waiters included, was the flashback image of Seto making a ghost massacre in a child's bedroom. :(

You aren't a gamer if you don't understand Rom's explanation.
Come to think of it his name also is a nice metaphor. Now where is Ram?
They were twins, but now they are triplets? Oh no...
It makes some sense, but how about Miko's dad? He for sure has the most normal appearance.
Guys you forgot that, he one time sent stalker ghost only by a few sentences... Do you think, a NORMAL ghost of a normal man could do it?

As someone said, old man is not the thing rises at the mountain... at the chapter 39 page 24... As also we first saw seto and the gang in front of the broken seal. And also Seto saying because they went to the mountain, his work load has grown bigger.
MY theory is sacrificed girl on the mountain was actually a barrier for the seal, since they liberated the girl, that seal got broken, and oh boy... Look again at the page 24 of chapter 39...That mf is huge... Yes God of the Mountain was big like 10 story building... But that thing is as big as the fricking mountain... I also think old man is nothing dangerous as that thing. You know even mountain god is as big as a marshmellow for that black figure...
But also well played, just after that monster has shown, author gave us Michiru and the tentacles just after 4 pages,(page 28)... SO we did thought(at least) it is possible that michiru and monster is linked, and that monster not that big of a deal.

No. Nope. Don't trust this guy. He tried to take out Miko's dad twice. He is not exorcising, to exorcise is to drive away a malevolent spirit or lay it to rest. This is just hatred.

wtf is bro yapping about I cant understand both of their explanation
Where the "folded" map touches, things can go from one closed "area" to another (or be in two places at once), even though they shouldn't.
How the map is folded is a matter of perception. When he erases them, he unfolds the map where they are
...I think.

So basically what was sealed at the mountain temple by the sacrificial maiden is now roaming free and causing big trouble. Could be "middle aged man with a sickle", but we also haven't got any explanation or new mentions to that thing that tried to enter Miko' house by impersonating Michiru's sister...dad was VERY concerned about it, and that warning he gave her is more ominous now that we know he could see ghosts when he was alive, just like his daughter
