i got chills from this thing more than most ghosts in this series

Because it's a normal looking creature in a room of horrors, i believe it's related to the uncanny liminal effect, aka where something normal feels far out of place and not supposed to be there.

nah, i think the ghost hide his true form, that why it's so inconsistent, but it's interesting to see that for a strong male medium, the ghost appear as a female ghost, but for a female medium it's appear as a male ghost, it's seem to be a shinigami because death is genderless.

I do wonder why it started haunting Miko's mom. Usually there is a trigger, but this ghost also seems to be well known, so who knows. Maybe it's a really strong and really bored ghost? But yeah, I doubt that's the case.

Most likely. He's been speaking to her directly and on at least one occasion warned her not to open the door. If she had, it would most likely have been fatal to her. Then again, her reluctance to acknowledge him is understandable, he's still an inhuman existence and there's no telling what would happen. She's learned that directly interacting with those leads to bad results.

... It's so funny that in this manga, almost all the ghosts I am scared/disgusted of are actually not evil at all.

Rom already told us a number of chapters back that different mediums see the same spirit in different ways. What we're seeing here is the difference between who MC sees it (old man) vs how her father saw it (scary old lady ghost).

Another example would be Mieruko's classmate who can only see outlines, her "spiritual awareness" is not faulty, that's just the way she sees them.

My best bet is that Mieruko's dad made that thing target him on purpose so that it would stop following Mieruko's mother, when he died the thing started haunting Mieruko. Whatever it is we know it is extremely powerful, and just like every other spirit so far it refuses to enter Mieruko's household, probably because of dad and François.

As for Yuria's ability, "faulty" is not the word, it's just inferior when compared to Miko's, just like Mitsue's is. This has been demonstrated plenty of times, since they both can't see the really dangerous entities, like the "itchy" guy at all.

It's not clear yet as to whom that "reaper" thing really pursued. Logically, it would make more sense for it to be the father and whomever inherited his ability. The guy did after all die relatively young and under some unclear circumstances.

You mean Hana's? Miko can see that too, which was confirmed with the thing that used her aura to roast and consume the tiny old men.

I wonder if this might be implying that the ghost in those pictures isn't actually the super dangerous old man ghost Rom was worried about? Because based on the fact that it can be consistently described as an "old man" by multiple sources, it probably actually looks like an old man to everyone. Maybe the one haunting Miko's mom was actually a ghost that changes to look like what you're most afraid of or something like that.

I disagree. Her dad used to see dangerous-looking ghosts all the time. To him this particular entity looked like just another one of those, nothing special about it. Miko, on the other hand, saw it as something unique. Not just a creepy old man but one with a scythe to boot. To me that suggests Miko's strong enough to see at least a bit of this entity's real nature (he's probably a shinigami, a death god) while her father couldn't.

She also mistook a ghost kid holding a balloon before it "revealed" itself. I agree that it's a higher ranked spirit, but I think the "creepy uncle" appearance is just a lure to trick people with "the sight" into interacting with it.

My theory for a while is that spirits operate at different layers and people with "the sight" can see different layers at difference clarities. Our girl can see it just enough to notice it and is likely it's ideal prey. Dad can see the next layer and can tell it's something sus. Rom seems to be able to see the deepest and can't actually hide that he's aware of it. On the other hand, mini mushroom can only seem to see the "life force" & "Tiny Uncle" layers

I don't remember what chapter that was so I can't check, but in 31, she definitely couldn't see it. She could infer information about it from its effect on nearby spirits, but had to rely on Yuria to actually see it and tell her how it looks. Maybe she was doing something similar in the chapter you referenced? 🤷‍♂️
