Ah, the ever enjoyable cycle of this manga:
Warm Fluff or at least normal slice of life > surprise, here's the most horrifying thing you've ever seen.

I swear this author has like, a reverse need - after drawing enough normalcy, they need to draw something messed up and nightmarish, or they just can't go on.

Another trope is the old man from Abe No Seimei's lineage, trying to protect Japan.

The old god Romm and Godmother defeat was actually placed there as a part of larger seal (for bigger baddie).

The middle age guy is actually the "eyes" and "hand" for this bigger baddie and it have plans for Miko for a long time and probably for her father too.

So the middle aged guy is related to this little fella? And those people at the end have something to do with monitoring it?

...that is easily the most fucked up deer monster I've seen.

It makes me wonder if it actually looks like that or just looks that way to miko, rom said that the "normal old man" miko is seeing doesn't look normal at all to him, which to me implies that she might be seeing them differently.
