I don't think he's untalented he just has never had to apply himself. His mother was a great actress and she saw to all his needs even when she wasn't active in his life. Having a career where you are away from your family it is often left up to relatives or household employees to raise your children (relatives often mistreat children they have to raise who are not their own even if they are getting paid for it. These children are often emotionally abused because the relatives see the child as being unwanted by their parents and a burden to them. The household employees often don't really have time to care for children, who are often neglected or abused because they are considered a liability and a burden).

I mean he displayed a talent when he cleaned the Dojo efficiently and thoroughly by himself after losing the test.

While I won’t say that the art has gotten worse or that it has become more generic, but it really has lost all of its edge that it had in these early chapters.
Technically, the art is probably better now than it’s ever been, but it has completely lost its ability to show the visceral androgynous beauty of its main characters in favor of a consistently cutesy non abrasive style.
This applies to the writing too: all of the interesting, nuanced emotional dynamics defining these first arcs has been replaced with a rather boring and drawn out will they won’t they. It’s not exactly less complex as a story, but it just doesn’t have any bite to it anymore, and it’s kinda floundering as a result….

I think it was more of a "i will never be as good as her and everyone expected me to be".

When i first started the manga i got to half the iner cover image and tought:
"Oh, its an Ouran style harem or is yaoi?"

Then the second part of the image loaded and i identified the skirts.

"Wait no, this is yuri!"

I took a moment to notice this is standard harem.
