I like how Yukko tried to wingwoman for Mikane last chapter and the mermaid tried to wingwoman for Yukko this chapter.
Also things are heating up between Mikane and the mermaid. It seems like she tried to push him away protect him from herself or something else. But can you really blame him, when she swept into his mundane life and then tried to leave him without any closure?

I have the sneaking suspicion that this mermaid isn't the washed-up Disney version of the mermaid... but the OG mermaid from legends, and those stories... never end well.

Looking at Mikane able to walk on water. Im starting to think that his mom had an affair with an ocean being, making Mikane half ocean being. If this is true, this explains why his parents separated in the first chapter. The guilt she had could be the one drove her out of their relationship. Or maybe his mom IS an ocean being, trying to live the land life. this would also explain Mikane's longing to the sea while he felt nothing's wrong with the land life.

So I did a quick google search and found out some of sea slugs are carnivores and can be cannibal too. The Onee-san probably get some clues of him as she hugged him in the first chapter. She probably can resonate with his feelings or some sort. But after seeing him walking on water shes more than convinced. And now she cant hold back her carnivore or cannibal side.

Those last pages are pretty hot tho not gonna lie.

I feel more like it's the blood at fault, tying back to the myth about eating mermaid flesh and immortality.

Maybe she's just gonna take him on a fine seafood dining expedition, we can always hope
