Well, I guessed wrong. They totally glossed over the river plunge. Still, with all the debris that had to have fallen with them, I'm sure the surface tension was plenty broken by the time they landed in it. And if one of them managed to grab onto Mary and break her fall, it makes sense that the only thing they got was cold and wet.

Swimming with tactical gear on your back while having shorter arms and legs compared to that of an adult seems like a rather risky situation tbh, even more on running water...

Good point! They did explicitly mention having higher muscle density, though, enough to appreciably raise their core temperature. That's enough for me to be willing to handwave that point, but you can also throw training into the mix to up those odds. Not panicking and using efficient technique counts for a lot.

TBH I wish I could tell if Merlin's cutesiness is out of a sense of professionalism, to perform a given role to their utmost...

... or if the role is just a happy coincidence, a chance to finally be a joyous little girl.

Merlin's got Schroedinger's Gender.

Something to note would be their clothes tho, wearing loose clothing like skirts or any frilly clothing in general would probably increase water drag making swimming even harder...(Tho the skirts were quite short in hindsight so not much effect I guess?)
I mean it would be possible for them all to just go along the river downstream till they are close to a bank or something but I highly doubt it would be a controlled process and would just be simply floating above the water while avoiding possible debris... Tho in that case, it would actually benefit them? Going downstream could help in escaping a situation on the fly but it could downplay hiding and escape in the long term..

Definitely worth noting, yeah. I'd say that ditching most of their gear more than made up for that difficulty, though. They were able to keep or get their bearings, so all in all I'd say things worked out rather well for them. On a completely unrelated note, I just noticed that they gave Mary a thermal blanket. Nice touch there.
