@chuchuchoerry I know I am probably wrong, but I would like to give Ibelin the benefit of the doubt. Just think of popcorn nose and his horrible past/present and imagine that Ibelin has a similar tale.
Its not far off from the story, and actually well supported by her present situation and the original plot.
Currently, she is being targeted by all these wretched nobles all because her natural charisma has captivated the only 3 single men in the kingdom that don't look like sardines.
Actually, its not only wretched nobles, even the nice ones have been hypnotized by the 3 non ugly single men into attacking her. Just remember latte's dear friend, olive oil.
And in the original story, she was even betrayed by her only friend because the devious prince infected her. Seriously, those 3 are the source of the problems here. They really should walk around with bags over their heads.
But, point is, imagine that this has been going on since birth. Her first friends in her childhood days, betraying her because she won over the guy her friend liked without knowing it.
Imagine that she turned to ancient books because she gave up on making friends, and that was the only corner of the library no one went to.
Imagine that she left her home country because she had been bullied her whole life there by people she once thought of as friends.
This trauma, slowly building up into a general distrust of everyone, all from the fear of eventual rejection. And, as these staged events go down, she cannot help but wonder if putting her trust into latte was a mistake. She laments on the day she first considered her a friend. The first day in a long time that she had decided to put down a book and go outside to play with another girl her age. The first day since forever that she truly smiled. And yet all of this may have been fake, just like it always ends up being.
Sure, she doesn't want to believe it, but latte has been suspicious since the beginning. I mean, the day they met she was just eating popcorn while watching her be stuck in a tree. Latte bumped into her and antagonized a group of bandits, not offering any actual assistance until she herself was in danger. Her reaction to the ogre attack makes it seem like she knew they were coming. And despite claiming to love books, it seems like she never visited a library prior to their meeting. Everything about latte is a mystery to her. Lattes actions look suspicious. And, in all honesty, she would be right to doubt her, because Ibelin is nothing more than the star of her personal comedy show. And, just like Arwin, latte would likely nudge Ibelin into harms way for her own personal entertainment, and definitely wouldn't less stop her from getting into such situations to begin with. No, she would only do that for true friends, like olive.
