I love how Adachi is paying respect to Nishimura (dad) acknowledging Nishimura's (son) skills!
I feel like Touch would have been a different manga if a single one of the side characters didn't exist, this is truely a love letter to his fans and his previous work.

Nishimura(s) and Harada interactions are a pure joy to watch, it's great to have them back in Mix!

And you are definetely right that Mix is a letter, but I'm thinking that it's rather a challenge letter, the challenge being whether you'd be able to guess what comes next or be fooled by the author. Adachi just keeps breaking 4th walls and hinting at plots of his other works, so I don't know if it's as enjoyable to people who haven't yet read anything else by him.
