What's happened here is that Mom has burned out gone into overload. This is the point at which friends/family should be called in, but perhaps there's no help there. And it seems that generosity only goes so far in JP. (E.g. the "not out business" attitude from Miyu.)

That said, son could/should have stepped up, but no he went with extortion of his friend instead.

Much as I like JP manga/anime/etc. sometimes the pretty stark difference in fundamental ethos stands out. (Though TBF my culture/ethos has its own problems.)

Son probably isn't eating, likely what the money is for. He took the taiyaki as well despite it getting floored the first time, that much should be obvious to demonstrate how desperate and or destitute their situation is.

Throughout all of this our MC isnt questioning why this new Miyu is very invested with his bully, and seems to have forgotten the fact that his actual Miyu died and was replaced.

I know a certain level of suspension of disbelief is needed to enjoy these types of stories but goddamnit author your pacing is terrible

I have to confess that I dislike the MC as much as the mother does on Page 17, Page 18 and the top of Page 19. Fake Miyu was actually saying what NEEDED TO BE SAID on Page 16 and was possibly making progress before MC stuck his irritatingly bubbling cheerful face in the way.

Instead of Miyu's earnest words making her start thinking about if she wanted to continue living like this she's provoked by his platitudes. "What the fuck do you know about any of this you snot-nosed CHILD? You think 'cleaning the trash' is going to do a damn thing? Get the fuck out of my face and out of my house!"

I like that MC is just "there". He is just a useless background character who keeps saying sorry. Just remove him so we can at least be spared from seeing his annoying face. Girl is %1000 more interesting in every way.
