Now this chapter is just gross. Relationships between characters with an age/maturity gap and unaddressed power imbalance creep me out whether they're real or fictional. Go back to the wholesome stuff where there aren't any creepy implications, please.

as a Therapist, your are not right about what you say,

Its true that one of the reasons is that you will disturb the mental/physical health of said person, but also we are told to not date our patients because you shouldn't use the personal information they gave you to hook up with one, you always know more of your patient than they of you, and almost always is gonna be very intimate info, and that my friend is a power dynamic.

people that are not therapists can somewhat manipulate someone in normal conditions, people that are under a mental health problem tend to be more manipulable, and is part of your fucking job to not take advantage of that person

I'm of the same opinion as others here about this pedo relationship, I can read shit like this without getting triggered, but I don't approve it at all, because is efebophilia, and take advantage of minors it's not in my moral values.
(people saying is a drawing seems to totally ignore the fact that arts shape thoughts, and that pedophiles consume a FUCKING LOT OF CHILD PORN, being drawings or real child porn, so saying is okay is to normalize that kind of relationship)

For a Therapist, you just did a lot of jumping to conclusions.

First, let me say that I generally do not advocate for therapist/patient relationships, because the patient tends to have mental health issues and they are there for your help. Any role a therapist takes, aside from focusing on rehabilitation, in that regard, would by definition be taking advantage of them. Again, this is because they are not mentally well, not because of "power imbalance," which is a bullshit term made up by morons with control and trust issues. People who are not mentally well are in no position to consent to a sexual relationship, and a personal relationship would most likely cause them to form an attachment to you, which would only hurt them more, once you inevitably must sever that tie, when they no longer need therapy (this is of course assuming it is not a genuine friendship, but an unduly friendly relationship taken up during the course of therapy). I should also point out that I only said I "generally" do not advocate for that type of relationship, because there are people who have court-mandated therapy sessions for things like anger management, sometimes for bullshit reasons (ex: she hit her abusive husband in the face, while trying to leave him, so she needs to learn to control her anger), in which case they would not be mentally ill and could consent to a relationship. That is the ONLY reason I use "generally," and not "in no circumstance".

That being said, the way you word this makes it sound like you believe that the only way for a relationship to happen between a patient and a therapist is by blackmail, using personal information, which is blatantly untrue. Things like the patient falling in love with their therapist are extremely common, which is why therapists are trained to not reciprocate those feelings, because again, the patient is almost always mentally ill. The problem lies in mental stability, NOT a power struggle. If what you are saying is true, then everyone you opened up to would have already blackmailed you into a relationship. Just because someone has the ABILITY to blackmail you, does NOT mean they will. This is an extremely fucking simple concept that none of the people replying to me seem to understand and it's starting to really become irritating.

Also, yes, I agree with everything you said, in regards to the child/adult pedo bullshit. It's morally reprehensible and in no way, shape, or form defendable, and nor should it ever be.

Now, let me say this in bold, directed to any other SJWs or control freaks try to reply to me with "bUt MuH pOsItIoN oF pOwEr!!!":

Everyone has some form of power against another person, in a relationship. ALWAYS. If I have the remote, I am now in a "position of power" over my wife, because she needs me to change the channel. This does not mean I am inherently oppressing her. If I make more money than my wife, I am in a "position of power" over her, because I can afford more things than her. I am still not oppressing her. If I am my wife's boss, I am in a "position of power" over her. THIS STILL DOES NOT MEAN I AM INHERENTLY OPPRESSING HER.
Do you know why all of those statements are true? Because humans can have more than one role at a time. We are not ONLY our jobs. If I am my wife's boss, guess what? She can still dominate and abuse me at home. Does that make her the oppressor now? It should, but according to you people, she CAN'T be oppressing me, because I oppress HER, in a different environment.
As for the other argument commonly presented, if everyone took advantage of every possibility, to be as evil, corrupt, and abusive as they possibly could, every time they were given the ability to, everyone would be completely evil all the time, anyway, and it wouldn't matter if someone was in a "position of power" in any way, shape or form. Not every person on the planet is a complete piece of shit. Human beings have the ability to not take advantage of every goddamn situation they're able to.

That is all. Now, please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, if anyone else in this fucking thread thinks it's a good idea to try to come at me with another one of these asinine arguments: DON'T. I do not want to engage in another conversation with you. I do not want to waste any more of my time revisiting this fucking topic.

DON'T. @. ME.

Lol I was hoping she was like his niece or something. Nope they're in a casual relationship. Of course everyone knows it's just a manga and fiction. Makes me feel uncomfortable though. Don't shoot, I've read some weird manga. Maybe because it's so casually thrown out there like it's normal. Just like that manga where the girl drugs and rapes the guy then makes him take responsibility. Maybe I would have continued reading if they didn't pretend it was just okay and normal.

everyone commenting "we dont know the AGE" or "its just a comic" i mean this genuinely: that's not why people are upset.

people are upset because this is depicting a romantic relationship between a teacher and a student. of course in the context of this comic, i'm sure it'll be cute and safe and not creepy or whatever.

but in the REAL WORLD relationships between students and teacher are not cute and safe. a teacher INHERENTLY has more power than a student. there's age gaps (as there likely is in this comic too) where difference in maturity cannot be waved away. students date their teachers are in danger. there's a reason why this relationship is "hidden" in the comic. consider why that would be.

it may be difficult to realize but depictions of relationships that are inherently imbalanced or exploitable like this, even in some one off internet comic, it is normalizing the existence of that dangerous thing. of course, you, the person reading this, may not be affected. but what about someone else? its kind of like how every complex machine is really just a bunch of simple machines that have come toge depicted in the stuff we enjoy informs how we look at a greater whole.

[ btw if anyone needs me to clarify what ive said i'm fine responding, but to be clear im not looking to debate anything here. im just trying to explain why people are expressing their discomfort with this chapter. if ur gonna try to like go back and forth or gotchya me.. dont lol i aint interested ]
Fiction always suffers when idiots can't discern what's real and what's fake. "The stuff you enjoy shows your true nature" is so stupid especially, seeing as that would mean my true nature was a serial killer who loved betraying my closest allies, when it's really the opposite in real life.

Well I just felt like throwing something out there, in case someone decided to read the comments section like I did.

The better question(s) is why did you write such a long comment? And why did you reply like a month later?

You know, I'll walk back my previous hostility - that's a genuine reason. I'll give you a genuine response. I'll also give a disclaimer up front this is my personal perspective as a person who uses MangaDex to read and engage in chapter comments, I never engage in the forum or larger communities like r/manga.

MangaDex was a very different website before its extended shutdown in 2020, esp wrt its comment section. Unlike now where comments are hosted on the forums, they used to be on the same domain as the main MangaDex website (I want to say the correct term would be embedded comments, but idk for sure lol). Additionally, the homepage was VERY different to how it is now. You can see this by going to the WayBack machine and looking at captures from pre-2020. In particular, unlike the "Popular New Titles" carousel that we have on the homepage now (that's populated with a lot of low-quality, tropey web/twitter ecchi comics), we had a "Top Chapters" sidebar (separated between 6h, 24h, 7d by number of accumulated views) and "Top Manga" sidebar (separated into follows & rating).

Before 2020, it was a LOT easier to find interesting, high quality manga and manhwa. There was still a deluge of works that varied wildly in quality on the front page (the "latest updates" panel was still there!) but it's not like how it is now where the "Popular New Titles" carousel is just... well frankly, a lot of boring, one-note crap.

With that in mind, when an unknown manga (esp web manga) shot up onto "Top Chapters" it meant one of two things: someone had found an exciting hidden gem or someone found something with controversial content. This manga is actually a spinoff of the "Modern MoGal" web manga that I remember being fairly popular back in the day. I can't recall if I found this because I was looking up Modern MoGal or if it popped up in the Top Chapters panel. Anyway, back in the day there was more active discussion on here about harmful tropes/themes in the manga that would get popular on the site, ESPECIALLY in the romance manga circles. You can see this yourself looking at the comments on manhwa like "Beatrice" or the manga "I'm not a Villainess Just Because I Can Control Darkness Doesn't Mean I'm a Bad Person".

Unlike a lot of other websites, for a while it felt like you could have back-and-forth discussions on MangaDex about these things. Sure, shit got heated many times, but I was surprised by the amount of times people would respond genuinely to my comments with understanding. Hence, I decided to write a comment here trying my best to explain to others WHY so many other users were finding content like this morally objectionable. If I achieved that goal or not.. who knows. I do apologize for responding to your response with outright hostility - that's antithetical to the type of conversaion I really miss having on spaces like MangaDex just few years ago! To be honest, I was mostly flabberghast to see a years old post pop up in my notifications.

I should note, MangaDex has had hentai on it for as long as I can remember (I've used the site since at least 2017), but because viewing hentai is switched off by default many users were separate from the hentai content on the site.

As for why my comments so long.................... well, verbosity has always been my weakness. I like to yap lol. :)

Real quick, I also want to revisit my original comment because I think I have a unique perspective now: I'm a 3rd year PhD student with plans to teach and mentor students in the future. I stand by a lot of what I said in my original comment, especially now that I've been involved in academia directly. I've seen firsthand how professors/teachers use their positions to coerse and engage in inappropriate relationships with students. I'm at a university, and even though all undergrads are 18 and above (legal adults), the univeristy policy explicitly bans relationships or sexual encounters between students and teachers because of how abusive and toxic they almost always become. Even at the graduate student level I am at, where relationships between grad students and professors aren't technically banned by the university, I've witnessed how devastating they almost* always turn out to be for the grad student. I'll add, this isn't exclusive to a certain gender or sexuality either - the person I've seen sexually harassed the most is a straight male friend in my cohort. If anything, I feel even more strongly that students and teachers should not engage in relationships, period.

*The only time I have seen one of these relationships not cause damage to the grad student was between a 40-something grad student and a professor who had an affair together - but that was messed up in a totally different way from what im talking about here

I don't believe fiction shows someones "true nature" or anything dumb like that, but I'm keenly aware of how positive depictions of what is, to be clear, a common abusive situation can help normalize that abuse in others minds. The reality is, serial killers are not accepted by society. Stories about them are appealing because they're a shocking spectacle, but are most consider them reprehensible (it's why they're usually the villains in stories). Unfortunately, teachers who have inappropriate relationships with students are frequently permitted by society, often passively through ignoring the situation by people saying "it doesnt seem that bad" or "its none of my business". It's why media portraying those relationships are cute and harmless are so uncomfortable to many people. This is what I was hoping to convey in my original post.

That said, its not like I think this manga should never exist. I think saying something shouldnt exist for moral reasons is a really dangerous precident to set and is frequently used by shitty people to justify censorship of harmless lifestyles they deem to personally be "morally objectionable". But when you share something publicly online on a platform with a comments section, you need to be prepared for people to say "Hey, I don't agree with this and I think the content is messed up."

That's actually pretty neat, I didn't know the homepage used to be that different, honestly I usually just check it out every now and then to see if there's anything good, but I rarely find anything worth reading. And honestly I don't think writing a lot is a weakness, well, at least not if you have something to say.

Yeah, I get it, portraying negative behaviours or situations in a positive light is generally a bad thing to do, but the problem I have is when people criticize anything that's different, even when it's not necessarily trying to promote behaviour that's wrong or could be seen as wrong, but rather somebody just decided to make a story about something.

Especially when they treat anyone associated with it like garbage, despite the fact they've done nothing wrong. And the worst part is that most of these people are probably hypocrites, because I doubt they only read pure fluffy romance with censored handholding if they ended up here.

Anyways I was just a little angry about this, because this is the reason that a lot of good stories get stopped from being made, they get too much backlash just because a character in it is wrong, or people don't like something in it that's wrong, and instead of just moving on they feel the need to "serve justice" to all the "evil doers" and in an extreme case they even ended up doxxing the creator of a game just because it had incest in it (the coffin of Andy and Leyley)

Ah well, I guess that'll probably never change. But at least it's better than the opposite, I suppose. Better than a world where incest, murder, and the like are seen as good, and everything else gets cancelled.
