To be completely honest, I only noticed 2 tl notes while reading the whole chapter because I was focused on reading the whole chapter itself

YES this is the level of girl failure that made me start reading this manga! Panicking and stuffing the cupcake in his mouth is peak.

I personally love whenever the translator (be it a person or a team) adds their input in a manga as long as it doesn't change it's content. Getting to see how passionate they are about the story and the characters is always a plus for me. It doesn't bother me if it's on the back or the chapter itself, but it's important to consider what the majority of readers wants. The thing is this issue of the TL notes immediately turned into a fight. Being rude doesn't make your point any better. That goes for both sides. We read manga because we like it, keep that possitive attitude, why actively try to make someone else's day worse?

I’m not opposed to reading a translator’s commentary, but this is getting out of hand. Some of it is even placed inside speech boxes, which is a bit much. I’ve seen other groups write their commentary on separate credits pages at the end of a chapter, which is a much more tasteful method.

While a few of the comments asking for this to stop are worded immaturely, adding more notes out of spite is similarly immature. Some of it isn’t even commentary. “Your mom”? Seriously? The pages of a manga are not a place to throw a mini-tantrum; have some respect for the original work.

y'all, just send a report and move on. The relevant rule being broken is:

3.2.7: All content that isn't strictly part of the original scanlated chapter is considered "extraneous". Examples of this include credits pages, recruitment notices, discussion, fan-colored chapter pages, and other fan art. Extraneous content is generally allowed, but must be placed either at the beginning or the end of the release.

That rule mainly has to do with extra pages of content being added, so people don't inseet ads/memes/etc between the pages of a chapter, or if it's openly offensive content.

So unfortunately while MD staff would take action if the TL notes were going on a racist diatribe, they're unlikely to do anything about TL notes like this that are just unnecessary, boring, and unfunny commentary.

Sadly some people look at what TLs like whitepod did and think that defacing a manga with stream-of-consciousness forced-joke commentary is the absolute peak of comedy and see nothing wrong with it, or worse make excuses for it and/or emulate it.

Needless to say, blocking this translator since they're clearly going down the whitepod route.

Man, if you guys are so pissed about the translator adding in notes, why don’t one of you guys translate it yourself instead? Either put in the effort they’re putting in for us, get used to it, or just stop reading, because until then you’re all just literally whining about someone working for you for free.

People can make value judgements based on things other than monetary value.

People in a community of shared interest will usually give feedback with the intent of wanting mutually beneficial improvement. Granted giving constructive feedback is hard and most people suck at this, but the good intent is still there.

One does not need to be a creator in order to be a critic. These are in fact two separate skillsets.

These are not difficult concepts to understand about how people operate.

This is true, and I don’t entirely disagree. I’ll admit, I could’ve worded it better in that comment, because the way I said it then caught a lot of the people attempting to offer genuine, constructive feedback as well.

That being said, I still stand by what I said, because even before this chapter it felt like the vast majority of people jumped straight to just insulting them and cursing them out rather than actually giving that constructive feedback. And while I do wish you were right, I really can’t see any good intent in those sorts of comments…

Anyway, in the end, it’s not that I think you just shouldn’t be able to criticise people if you haven’t created something yourself, even if that is how I accidentally ended up making it sound. My issue is with the idea that people feel so comfortable to just insult and swear at someone who’s done something for them, even when you know for a fact they would never put in the time and effort to do it themselves. Like, it’s less the action itself and more the intent and motivations behind it, if that makes sense.
