I'm glad that the manga made it less like the horseshoes were less like an erogenous zone (like many other manga would have done) and made it more like a dentist appointment.

Not that I dislike fanservice in the least, but more in the sense that I find it would break my suspension of disbelief with her hooves being the subject. Lamia nurse's actions were great though, with her tail gag...

lol danger zone with a cyclops black smith. No depth perception. I thought shoeing doesn't hurt a horse. I could see the burn in as possible hurting at that is really hot metal so the heat would flow into the part where there are nerves.

@Liquidxlax from what I can find the use of a forge during shoeing a horse is called "Hot shoeing" where they bend the shoe to the general shape of the horses foot in the forge, and then place it onto the horses foot to better for it to the shape of the foot and burn away bacteria before placing it in water to cool before finally nailing it into the horses foot.

Horses don't feel anything when they have shoes being put on. It's not an area with nerves. Why is she so emotional about this?

@Tamerlane
Because it LOOKS like it would hurt a lot. I know several people like that - even if they won't feel anything, they'll avoid something that LOOKS like it would hurt like the plague.

@Tamerlane If such grinding was done to a horse's hoof, like shown in this chapter, I'm sure the horse would at least feel the vibrations and the slight sensation of the scraping against their hooves. I'd say it's more "they don't feel pain" rather than "they don't feel anything." It would explain why she was reacting like she could feel him scraping her hoof and thus knew when he stopped, which then prompted her to ask if he was done. Of course, it could also be that she could simply hear the noise, so even if she actually couldn't feel anything as you said she could still hear it happening.

Ultimately, most of her reactions are just psychosomatic in nature. Having horse-shoes put on is something she's clearly never done, and she even admitted that not even her parents have seen the bottom of her hooves(as far as she's aware, anyway), so clearly her hooves are a sensitive subject for her. The thought of someone "violating" her hooves is enough to throw her into a tizzy. Seeing him sport the nail he was about to drive into her hoof was basically nail in the coffin. Pun intended. :p

@Drifter Today horse boots are made with polymers and hard rubber. There are no such materials in the medieval/renaissance times of this story, to create something like that to be both light, easy to create, and durable enough. It could be done with steel and thick lather, but it wouldn't be easy to make, and it would be either heavy to be durable or light and flimsy.
