@FrostKD
Not a big deal for the beings with no gender. Arteas himself was a woman and somebody's wife a thousand years ago. It's normal for Arteas and Naiad that if the person looks like a girl/guy then she/he should act like a girl/guy.

@nzrock I read too much sci-fi. This is the very definition of mindrape, maybe look that up before pointing fingers? Fucking with the building blocks of who you are without consent. Rape is a strong word for it, but what else can you call so deep a violation, that from an objective position you become no longer able to give consent. If rape is the violation of the sanctity of your body, mindrape is a violation of the sanctity of the mind/self.

Hell, there's a reason why some people consider this level of forceful mind-wiping/amnesia as personality death, and consider it no less horrifying than actual death.

You will note that the real-world examples I gave were abuse of alzheimers patients and the mentally retarded. Now imagine you turn a normal person in to one of such, incapable of any kind of consent, without their consent. And repeat it again and again, whenever that person looks like they might be becoming more cognizant. And feel like there is nothing wrong with this. Which could work, as a part of character building, really. But the rest of the scene does not give me hope that the author will do this tastefully, as shown by how many in the comments seem just as indifferent.

Ah yes, now I understand well why the title differ from the original novel by adding the word "lady".

It was foreshadowing about Arteas raising Dark to become a proper "lady" lol.

@AiSard Sorry for late reply, but I got busy and as much as people can have their own opinions, I already predicted you'll be a rather crazy person lol.
I'm sorry but no, no sci-fi is like this, unless you straight up reading gender bending hentai porn. You can prove me wrong and cite your "sci-fi" sources.
I was gonna write an long elaborate post countering all your points and proving you wrong, but it would be a waste of time, and ultimately I think you're confusing "mindrape" with "mindfuck/mindblown".
Which while it does have the F word, it by no means is sexual related.
And here, since you're clearly too proud and lazy to research it: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/rape

This will be my last reply, reading your posts is giving me a massive headache lol, in due time you'll learn how weirdly wrong and imaginative you are lol.

@nzrock Oh damn, forgot all about this thread.
I know what rape/mindfuck/mindblown is, the main point of contention is that mindrape exists as a trope.
And while its somewhat understandable if you don't know about it, given that you immediately went to manga/hentai as a reference when I mentioned sci-fi, but it doesn't really show up in manga so much (and is completely glossed over when it does). I've seen it showing up a little in western comics and tv shows, but the main place it shows up in is Sci-fi novels and short stories, specifically the ones that deal with transhumanism and/or existential horror.

Apparently it might also be a thing in Fantasy with a Horror bent, but its been too long since my edgy fantasy teen-phase. Something is reminding me of Michael Moorcock's Elric Saga for some reason though... Its been way too long though. It does show up a lot in the Tabletop gaming space though, so that'd make some sense. Though that might just be the natural endpoint of the edgy 90's trying to cross Mind Control (from either fantasy or sci-fi) with gritty Horror. DnD 3e even has a spell called Mindrape with the specific definition. Mage: The Awakening, CthulhuTech, and a myriad of other cyberpunk-ish dystopic tabeltops go in to this if there's a mindcontrol-happy faction at all. Probably explored further in their accompanying fiction as well.

And while it has the Rape word in it, it is by no means sexual related either.
Rather, it is the violation of privacy and consent, paired with mind control. Played straight.
If someone could reach in to your mind and remove all references to your loved ones, your parents, your significant other. As if they never existed? Permanently? Then focused on the abject despair and humiliation that came as a consequence for everyone involved? That's mindrape-y as fuck right there. No sex needed for that.

The fact that TvTropes has an article on this with multiple pages for examples speaks to the fact that it exists as a trope. The description of the trope is really bad though, as it essentially throws in mundane torture in there as well, though the example page does make some distinction. The examples do vary wildly in quality though, with a lot of just straight up mental torture instead. And no distinction is made for if the source actually plays it straight or if it is glossed over completely in-story and so only implied. The fact that people have recognized it as a trope is a thing though. Of how ethically iffy Doctor Fate or Persona 5 would be if played straight. Charles Stross' Accelerando also dips briefly in to it when a boy thief steals half the main character's sense of self and accidentally merges with it for a while, but thats more an exploration of the potential of abuse, rather than outright abuse (and I really just like mentioning Accelerando). And I'd argue that Mindrape in fiction is only when it is played straight, which you see primarily in the Horror genre (or edgy fiction)

No need to reply if you don't want to. It just boggled my mind that I had to dumb-down my argument to just trying to explain what mindrape is, and instead got schooled on because you assumed I didn't know what rape was?! What next, you'll show me a dictionary definition of "mind"? gah. Scifi getting resolved in to just scifi in manga/hentai was already bad enough, but whooo.

It'd be one thing if Dark personally desired to go along with that spirit's plan, but I'm pretty sure that Dark would rather die than be coerced into doing anything.

hmm... ngl I hope he gets his original body back
Also, I really do quite like the art for this series, especially the first few chapters.

lol

Also, pretty sure this is not going to work out so well for her.. Like I feel Dark would definitely fight back and somehow win
