She only stabbed it the eye two times, hence the moment she says she got both eyes. The first attempt at swiping at its eye she got intercepted by the thing.

I went through the pages a few times...

• There are multiple monsters on the field
• Serena and Tigur are fighting one giant bear monster
• They are not equipped/trained to defeat large monsters (neither can one knight who specialize again monsters)
• Tigur can beat regular monsters though but not giant monsters
• Tigur can fight
• Serena is trying to protect the other girl so all 3 cant escape easily
• Bear monster blinded from knife and feather
• Bear monster got lucky with it swipe

I wouldn't say the monster got lucky he's blind not deaf he heard serena yell at scarlet and attacked in the direction of the sound.
