I'm surprised Tamura ended up cursed as well, I thought for sure this was meant to be a pretext for a frame-up.

"space case" has connotations to actual space; I think it's fair to assume that the inhabitants of that world wouldn't have the requisite contextual knowledge to know what the colloquialism would even mean if they heard it, much less have generated it themselves.
I mean, there's a general perception of astrologers/astronomers being preoccupied with looking at the heavens and being oblivious to what's going on down on earth. I wouldn't rule out stargazing as a practice in this world, mystical or mundane.

Everything I found about "space case" as a colloquialism pointed to it coming about in the 20th century - namely, after we started actually going up into space (or al least putting stuff up there, getting us up close and personal with The Vacuum).

Before that, I don't recall finding anything about astronomers pre-19th century really knowing anything about what was going on Up/Out There, so the specific context of it being "space" and not just "the heavens" (as you yourself phrased it) isn't necessarily known. I did just find that Pascal hypothesized in the 1650s that, because atmospheric pressure decreased the higher in elevation you went (from sea level up on a mountain, in his experiment), that it might continue to do so until it reached 'actual zero pressure' around 89km or so. So there is technical precedent for knowing about the vacuum of space before we started sending up rockets to verify

But, given everything we've seen about this world, they don't appear to have reached "internal combustion", and even with magic they're using literal horse power. They're probably not sending Magic Sputnik up and through their version of the ozone layer to confirm anything.

That's not to say it couldn't be the case. But that's my rationale for why "airhead" works just fine and arguably better in the chapter in the context provided, if only in a pedantic sense.

Lesbomancy truly is powerfull. I fear that Nana self worth is gonna take an HEAVY blow from blaming herself for the increased power of the curse and it targeting Luliam, let's hope she doesn't regress too much and wifye can give her a boost.

Thanks for the translations!

Damn Alice waterboarded her. I want to say how unlikable that makes Alice. Torture isn't the most effective method of interrogation. You think they could have used some magical macguffin truth stone or something, if they needed to handwave Babulus into a confession. Instead we get brutality.

I blame how all the war movies these days feature hardened, sociopathic special ops types who don't care about the rules, who only see 'enemies.' It glorifies torture or violence in the hands of "good guys" while ignoring all the bad will and blowback that it's caused in reality.

torture is a effective interrogation method, eventually you will have to open up after so much pain and the risk of death no? you need some monster guts to not fold under that kind of pressure and that woman was not the case at all

why would she deserve mercy? she fucked up with royalty and a saint and thats a big no no fair or not

Really? She got caught just like that near-instantly?
Ngl before reading the chapter, I spoiled myself by scrolling down really fast to see where it was going and then I saw the knife throw, if I had to deal with 2 or 3 chapters of everyone doubting the princess again while the true culprit is hidden and everyone is depressed, I would've come back next volume.

We have decades of research that shows that people are just as willing to lie as tell the truth under torture. Guilty people will plead innocence in hope of mercy while innocent people will claim guilt just to end the pain. Torture victims will say whatever they feel will satisfy their interrogater, it's as ineffective as it is counter productive.

Thank god they caught Babulus' ass quick and didn't drag it or forgot she was acting fcking suspicious

Also, let's fcking go Daichi!!
(This will absolutely won't have any meaning in their relationship going forward at all!)

Then there’s the matter of feelings. Luliam told Daichi more about Eldora to give her that extra boost, but how does that work for the other couple? Does she talk to an unconscious Nana about herself and hope it somehow sinks in? I worry it might be more complicated in this case.
I think it will be more complicated than that since the curse is specialy made for her. Guess they will need to study elven magic to fully break the curse.

It's not about being merciful to Babalus. Once proven guilty she deserves punishment. Losing her post and jail time, I'd say. Execution would be too much imo.

It's about what @CannibalShinobi said, that torture creates false confessions. Torture someone enough and they'll start telling you what they think you want to hear, just to make the torture stop. And if you bring someone in for questioning, torture them, and they end up not being involved? That person and all their friends now hate your filthy guts. The better way is to ask questions over, and over, and over, see where the story changes, check their story against the facts, etc. If you have multiple suspects get them to tell the same story and see where the differences are. A lie will show cracks eventually. Interrogation > Torture.

But the second point is that Torture causes blowback. The US torture program under President Bush did not find many terrorists. But it did piss off the entire region and create more terrorism. It was counterproductive.

I actually wonder if Luliam and Nana are going to be put on the narrative backburner by virtue of Nana being left comatose, and we'll be getting a stretch of story focusing on Eldora & Daichi going and attempting to find a cure for her (at Daichi's insistence), while also building up their characters and their relationship in the process.

Alice leaking killing intent was beautiful and seeing Babulus waterboarded was a delight I didn't expect to see directly.

Daichi's more intense, heated relationship with Eldora (the feisty x the prideful) is also a very welcome change of pace from the very vanilla, lovey-dovey relationship between Tamura and Lili.

Thanks for the chap.

And that's boys and girls why you leave your evil plans and confessions as a monologue in your head... Cause otherwise you get waterboarded and THEN TOLD TO BRACE FOR SOMETHING WORSE!
