My main problem is the execution, not the idea itself. I'm fine with the big scary monster being a slime, but like, look at page 15. It's literally just two piles of autumn leaves from the porch of a suburbian house stacked on top of each other. How am I supposed to feel anything distressing when the monster is small enough to fit in the doorframe of a middle class home

I was also going to paste the 'played straight' version where Gil and Tarvek were talking about "At least she didn't try it on a poisonous etc..." "You were there?" Not really. Just that magic sucks against this one particular demon. If it was useless against all demons, then the one he now has as a pet wouldn't have had to put up anti-magic wards when he came out of the book to fight the mc.
