Having just read the novel in which all of this is skipped over for the manga, I'll try to summarize the relationship between Sara and Rudy.
Sara hated Rudeus from the moment they met. Apart from his gloomy attitude, she hated that he was of noble lineage. Especially Greyrat as it was revealed that her village was destroyed in a monster outbreak due to poor handling from someone of the Greyrat name. But as he frequently joined up with her party and have saved her twice, her opinion and feelings began to change and over the course of a year had grown into love.
Rudy on the other hand tried to be oblivious towards her advances, considering he still had trauma from what Eris had done to him. Ultimately though, he decided to give Sara a chance and proceeded to tie the knot with her. Unfortunately for him though, his trauma was too great and he realized this as he spent time with Sara. Both were seemingly victims of unfortunate circumstances and Sara trying to remain composed, as well as maintain some of her pride, recklessly told him "It wasn't that I liked you or anything. It was just obligation." and left Rudy alone to wallow in despair.
That's when this chapter came into play as Soldat's retelling is exactly as it happened, just unlucky timing as he was dead drunk and heading back to his inn. There were plans for Sara's party to go on a mission together where Rudy was supposed to tag along, but he was a no-show so they went looking for him. She had intended to talk things through with him, but seeing him with Elise and him blurting out what he said while drunk made her furious.
She did calm down later after her mission and tried to apologize to Rudy again after returning, but by that time he had already bounced town with Soldat. She was also rebuked by Elise as she tried to find him, but wasn't able to apologize in the end.
