So they went there, this is a delicate subject and they handled it very nice... And something that's worth mentioning, this chapter wasn't rushed like the previous ones with unfinished panels, I'm glad for the author, looks like things are better now.

Wonderful, adorable gayness.
Biness?
Doesn’t matter.
Queerness, anyway. 🏳️‍🌈

@Thrembs Except all that "gay/bi-ness" shown here is all performative and based on appearances. It makes this whole series quite shallow. Even when the guy asks him blablabla what will you do when he's not cute anymore, he just brushes it off and gives some he's cute cut i like him, which totally comes off like deflecting bullshit he says to convince himself.

There's zero psychological reflection here, all face value shit. Fake deep stuff in my opinion.

Well, obviously. This is mainly a comedy manga, ones that actually deal with these themes have at the very least a Drama tag. Remember that there's a reason why the saying goes like
As long as he's cute, it doesn't matter

Angsty cute boys with their hardships and loves. Makes them even cuter! Excited to see them figure them out!

I mean it doesn't have to be a drama to have sentient characters instead of mindless dolls. This looks like trapsploitation or something at this point.

I was going to say that this doesn't quite answer the initial question of "if he didn't crossdress, would I still like him," but I guess in a way, it does. "I started liking him because he was cute, but then he seemed cuter because I liked him" is a good enough response while they are in high school. So if the others reach like Social Rank Whatever, they might start liking each other for their personalities and mannerisms more. Cat Ears is the only one with a huge gap in personality, and he already has a loving boyfriend.

That's way oversimplifying it, but hey they're high schoolers in a society that doesn't have much exposure to sincere LGBT themes. If that is the explanation they're most comfortable with, then they don't need to worry about it until later in life. Because this is a manga, high school lovers will probably be together until they die

It’s directly addressing it, and making it clear that it’s not just about appearances. Did you expect teenagers in a comedy to sit down and do a bunch of intensive discourse?

My wife saw my Twitter profile pic and followed me.
We started tweeting about random stuff, important or unimportant.
Six months later we were married.
2.5 years of marriage so far.

Sometimes deep things things start from appearances.

That doesn’t mean they stay there.

I'm sort of baffled by how people see Darling's love as shallow, when it seemed like that was the opposite of the point he was making. It did start out somewhat shallow, with him thinking Sakutarou was cute. But lots of relationships begin with physical attraction, e.g. most relationships that began on a dating app. That doesn't mean the relationship can't evolve past that. When he says "I think he's cute because I like him," he's saying he also likes Sakutarou for non-physical reasons, so he would still find Sakutarou cute (i.e. attractive) even if he wasn't as pretty. And this is true of most long term couples. Do people think time is only an issue for femboys? Age affects everyone's appearance, regardless of gender. But plenty of couples stay together through old age because their connection isn't solely physical.

Darling even explicitly says this in the next panel - "Besides, can you stop making it seem like the only thing good about him are his looks? He's kind, and looks after those around him! And he works hard with school and fashion! And he's such a great cook!" I don't know how people can read that and think he's shallow.

This manga is wholesome as hell.
Also, I find it fucking weird how people 'gatekeep' love. Like this guy has to have a perfect domino effect of why he fell for a guy/girl/whatever.
My father asked out my mom because he thought she was hot. They've been married 25 years. There's nothing wrong with finding someone hot, asking them out, then coming to love them through discovering them as a person. In fact, this is how dating should naturally go. Manga/anime make the idea of 'confessing' and going out on a date some strange scenario where a boy and girl have to have spent a year of high school pining after each other.
