That being said, my thoughts are I feel the author is definitely showing us how it's really the Cheater's actions that are an issue. So far the volleyball gf has always been on the backfoot, apologizing etc. Meanwhile we keep getting this "You should have known" from cheater rather than actual communication. What cements this for me is how quick she apologize every time she's in the wrong. I thought the whole fallout with the friend was going to last way longer yet here we are with an apology gift! It's also probably since the author's setting up the friend to be the obvious better match for Volleyball here.
