As i see it Kanai's death was not kyoichi's fault, Kanai was killed by the author, his writing skills lacked so he sacrificed the nicest bro just to get kyoichi back into the plot, and he did it by having kyoichi acting out of character by having him fall into a "moment of weakness".

you're looking at this too much in retrospect, there is no way for kyoichi to know that just telling kanai more about the circumstances would cause kanai die immediately.

for all we know, keeping kanai ignorant would later lead kanai to die too because kanai could do even rasher things if he doesn't know the circumstances.

Also, kanai's need to know the the whole truth is reasonable because kyoichi is greatly indebted to him https://mangadex.org/chapter/974896/10 . If kyoichi refused to give the info , he's pretty much saying 'I'm just temporarily using you, I don't really trust you' to his friend.
